Everyone is responsible for every child. "It Takes a Village", a speech by Hillary Rodham Clinton states that it is harder to rise a child now than before. The title of her speech has two different meanings. In the past, a village meant an actual geographic place where individuals and families live and work together. Nowadays, it means a net work of values and relationships that support and effect our lives. Ms. Clinton chooses the African proverb, "It takes a village" as the title of her speech because she felt the proverb explained how we should raise our children.

In our modern society, children are easily effect by environmental problems, such as violence, sex, drug/alcohol, materialism, and even the break up of the family. Parents should provide a comfortable family for their kids. Children will survive only if the families survive. Our problems have grown even larger today. Struggles of both parents and children really catch Ms. Clinton's heart. Children are not rugged individuals, they depend on their parents. Parents create a big impact on children's lives. Children are easily affect by their parents. The roles of parents are teaching their children how to communicate and how to establish their values.

Ms. Clinton suggested that the village is a good place for children. Ms. Clinton is grateful that, as a child, she had hardworking and devoted parents. Much of her life was beyond her parents' control. She grew up in a village. Over there, every body was helping her, which included her parents, neighbors, and teachers. In the past, Village remained as a community; the whole community was responsible for Ms. Clinton. Nowadays, extend family rarely live in the same town, crimes and fears cause us to lock the door. Instead of communicates with our neighbor, we spend time on shopping and watching TV, this modern world seems dehumanizing and inhospitable. Village is no longer found on the map. It's a challenge for people to raise a child.

Ms. Clinton also says that she has learned the most important lessons on how to raise children from children themselves. Ms. Clinton's daughter-Chelsea, no matter how much attention that Ms. Clinton and her husband put on her, her future still is effecting by the rising of other children. From Ms. Clinton's point of view, the role of an elder in child's life is to listen to them because children are always like to share their hopes and how they think. If you listen, you'll hear it. Parents should promise, even fulfill children's dream and self-interest. Ms. Clinton wants her child to believe American dream is to reach when you work hard with responsibility; America is a land of opportunities and hopes.

As Ms. Clinton explains her speech: "It takes a village to raise a child" is a lesson for all of us as it approaches to the modern 21st century. Therefore, it really takes parents, family, and every body. Each of us should be responsible for raising a child.
