![]() ![]() This Episcopal church, at the foot of Wall Street, is the third one to be built on this sight. It was designed in 1864, by Richard Upjohn. Marking the beginning of a Gothic Revival architecural period, it was one of the grandest churches of its day. Although dwarfed by its neighbors, the 280 ft (26 m) steeple was the tallest structure in New York until the 1860s.
Many prominent early New Yorkers were members of the church. People like Robert Fulton, Alexander Hamilton, and William Bradford are among those buried in its churchyard.
