![]() The hub of the world's financial markets is located in this 17 story building constructed in 1903. In 1792, twenty-four brokers who traded under a buttonwood tree at 68 Wall Street signed an agreement to deal only with one another. Thus the basis of this Stock Exchange was formed. The membership is limited and a "seat" today can cost up to a million dollars. In addition, a rigorous test for suitability is required.
Visitors today can take a tour of the Exchange. There is a gallery overlooking the trading floor which is open to the public.
