Matt E. Cristo's Third
Weekly Event Extraordinare
Cigar Review
THIS WEEK'S CIGAR:
Carlos Torano Nicaraguan Selection
This is now the third cigar review that I've done,
so please, take a minute to let me know if I
suck at this or if I'm
not doing too bad for a novice.
Here we go:
VITAL STATISTICS
Make: Carlos Torano
Model: Belicoso
Color: Natural
(regular visitors will notice the abscence of the
car joke.)
Size: Not sure.
Country:Filler and binder are Nicaraguan, with an Indonesian wrapper. I
think.
Price: $3.71(US)
Construction: These cigars are
rolled well. The wrapper is a nice looking dark brown, with few noticeable
veins. They also have a cute little pigtail finish at the cap.
Cutting/Lighting: It cut and lit well, and kept a pretty even burn.
How it smoked: Well, I only had time to smoke one of these, but the one I got to was a fairly decent smoke. The flavors were a little weak, and it tasted a little green through the first part of the cigar. It was a mild-bodied smoke and was pretty enjoyable, despite the lack of proper aging.
Cigar Aficionado: I couldn't find a CA rating for this cigar. If you can find it, let me know, and I will publish it.
Final Impressions: I called this a belicoso, but it may be considered the torpedo of this line. I think there are better ways to spend $3.71, but its hard to find good torpedos under $5, and this is another cigar that shows promise. I'm going to hold on to the one I didn't get to smoke this week, and see how it does in about 3 months. I'll keep you posted. I give it 6.9 out of 10 because I think the lack of aging really hurts the flavors of what could be a great cigar.
