CONSTITUTION OF THE WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY CIGAR GUILD

ARTICLE I Name

The name of this organization shall be "The Wright State University Cigar Guild," (The Guild).

ARTICLE II Purpose

The purpose of The Guild shall be to introduce and educate members to the world of fine cigars. To provide a social setting where people of different backgrounds, with a common interest in fine cigars, can enjoy each others company. To promote the sharing of the knowledge, ideas, and thoughts of its members and nonmembers (speakers, guests, and friends). To provide a setting outside of Wright State University (because the University is smoke free in all of its buildings) where tobacco can be enjoyed in a social, educational, and responsible, adult-like manner. In doing so, to provide an oasis for its members and guests from a campus society that tends to abuse, not appreciate such pleasures. To provide a gateway to the community (local, state, and national) through which positive intercourse may occur. To make this organization (The Guild) a model that other schools will be proud to follow.

BY-LAWS

ARTICLE I Membership

Section A. Application process. To apply, a person must give his or her name, social security number, major, phone number, and age to any officer of The Guild. The prospective member must then submit to an interview by the membership committee. The applicant will be notified about the outcome as soon as possible.

Section B. Honorary Membership. The President or Vice-President may grant honorary membership to any person they deem worthy. These honorary members are not liable for dues or fees, and are invited to all functions and meetings. For example, a guest speaker may become an honorary member.

Section C. Termination of Membership. Any member can resign from The Guild only if he or she gives notice of this at a general meeting. That member will be liable for any responsibilities taken on before the full completion of their resignation is accepted. However, it should be noted that if any member decides to terminate his or her membership without properly notifying The Guild, there is really nothing The Guild can do save for generally bad-mouthing the former member. The President reserves the right to dismiss any member of the Society at any time if the member exhibits poor taste, unsavory behavior, or violates University guidelines, local, state, or federal laws.

Section D. Terms and status of Faculty-Staff Advisor. The Faculty-Staff advisor will be considered a member of the Society and as such will be subject to the Society by-laws and constitution.

Section E. Reinstatement conditions. A member who has resigned or been dismissed may reapply for membership in the Society by pleading their case at a general meeting and having members vote on their reinstatement. A vote of two-thirds will be required for reinstatement. In the case of a member who was dismissed, he or she must be out of the Society for a minimum of one quarter before reinstatement pleas can be heard.
