Singapore
An independent island nation, Singapore sits astride sealanes linking East and West.

Singapore's multi-racial heritage gives it a rich culture while its efficiency and modernity ensure comfort.  The population is a mix of mainly Chinese, Malay and Indian.  Other cultural strands include Arab and Eurasian.   English is the lingua franca.

Singapore, founded in 1819, developed as a trading colony in the era of the imperialism of free trade. Over 150 years, the island's links within the region have been close-forged. As a political entity, however, Singapore has developed separately and differently.
