#5 A Week of Training - 12/19
I've ridden my bike for six days and only occasionally do I still reach for where bar-end shifters would be if I had them. Mostly, I'm getting used to these new fangle click shifting brake levers. A combination of flat riding around San Diego Bay and hilly riding up and back along the coast has lead, to no surprise, to some conclusions ... or at least some observations. San Diegoans will water dirt if they don't have any grass. Curb cuts are so sharp that there are gouges in the pavement from vehicles bottoming out. San Diego bike riders NEVER say "On your left." Riding along a beach you can be approached by a squadron of Navy helicopters "beating the air into submission" and expect to hear Wagner being played. Then in the evening the church a block away plays Christmas Carols on their bells. (Of course it's probably a tape playing through loudspeakers, but this my story, and I'm sticking with live church bells.) There's something about hearing church bells playing O' Tannebaum with the music wafting thru palm trees.
Today, is a rest day to take in the World Famous San Diego Zoo. Panda showing in 10 minutes.
Happy Trails,
Bruce
