STAFFORD AND STONE BRANCH

PUB OF THE YEAR 1998

BIRD IN HAND STAFFORD

Stafford and Stone CAMRA's prestigious Pub of the Year award for 1998 has been won by the Bird in Hand, Stafford.

Having never needed any dramatic changes, the pub has just progressed steadily during the nineteen years that Ron and Sharon Wilson have kept it.

With the bar, lounge, snug and games room each catering for a different clientele, the pub is deservedly popular and it is often quite busy.

The Pub of the Year certificate was presented on Ron's 50th birthday, and this coincided with the pub's bi-annual beer festival. Their next festival, with marquees in the garden accommodating nearly fifty Real Ales and entertainment, is planned for the last weekend in April.

The Real Ales regularly on sale are Courage Best and Directors, John Smith's and Worthington Bitters, plus a guest beer.

The pub is open all day, every day, and good value meals are served until 6pm from Monday to Saturday.

The Bird in Hand is situated midway between Stafford railway station and the town centre, and is just three minutes walk from either, and is at the Victoria Square end of Mill Street.
