Maybe it was July 23rd, maybe it was July 24th, we don't know, we lost the 9 hours. All I know is we were fortunate to have a special pass into the European Commons VIP lounge with comfortable chairs, free food and drinks, and electrical outlets. We discovered when attempting to recharge our video camera battery that the charger was kapluncked. Luckily there was a camera store and we were able to purchase a replacement, albeit a European plug style, luckily we had a full range of adaptors. Nancy also decided that the cameras we had packed were not sufficient, so she bought herself a new Nikon with a 300mm zoom lens, and most of the beautiful animal pictures were taken with the Nikon.
Frankfurt. Even a couple we met from Hamburg in MOMBO thought it was a bad town. Maybe it's the size of the airport (a city within a city), maybe the multiple US armed forces bases that grace the city, we just found it cold. The airport had all these passport control desks you had to pass through, no customs, just constant passport control. We did hire a taxi to take us around, what else to do with a 15 hour layover, and the cordial taxi driver took us to the old part of Frankfurt wherein these photos were taken.
The strangest episode is when we went to get something to eat. We asked around for something authentic, what could be more authentic than frankfurters and sauerkraut. While we were eating our frankfurters and the girls were finishing their soda pop, they started to blow across the top of the bottles as kids will do to make that sound, the waitress was quick to come around and look at the girls and in a militaristic way with a thick German style English said "NO MUSIC." So, this is Frankfurt.
