The PGE started out in 1907 as the "Howe Sound, Pemberton Valley and Northern Railway". When the British Columbia government took it over in 1918, they changed the name to the "Pacific Great Eastern Railway" but the PGE's unofficial names were "Please Go Easy" "Province's Greatest Expense" and "Prince George Eventually."
