Peitou Hot Springs
Peitou, famed for hot sulphur springs, has been
a scenic spot in Taipei
for a long time. Nearby are many places of sight-seeing
interest,
among which Tije (subterranean heat) Valley is
the most outstanding.
Hsienkung Temple
Located in the Mucha district of Taipei, the
temple has beautiful
surroundings. Standing in the loft, 285 m above
sea level, you can
have a bird's eye view of Taipei City.
Chungcheng Park in Keelung
Situated in downtown Keelung, the vast park is
surrounded by
mountains. Among sightseeing interest is a giant
statue (22.5 m) of
Kuanyin, Goddess of Mercy, that crowns a hilltop
overlooking the
harbour.
Kuanghua Tower in Keelung
Built at the end of the west pier, the tower
is 150 feet tall. Its top part
from the third floor above is in the form of
an umbrella. The first and
second floors are watch towers, the fifth floor
a lookout hall.
Yehliu Queen's Head
Yehliu on the tip of northern Taiwan is a promontory
noted for its
fantastic rock formations, fashioned by the elements
through the ages.
One favourite subject is the Queen's Head, which
reminds many
visitors of a representation of the ancient Egyptian
Queen Nefertiti.
Candle Holder at Chinshan
Chinshan is located on the north coast near Taipei.
From Chinshan
you can see a fantastic islet which looks like
a pair of candle holders.
Liberty Bell at Sansia
The Bell is set at the site of the Anti-Communist
Soldier Assistance
Center at Sansia near Taipei. It rings once a
year on January 23 to
celebrate Liberty Day.
Chungshan Building
Yangmingshan Chungshan Building is in the Yangmingshan
district of
Taipei. The beautiful three-story building exemplifies
the highest
traditions of Chinese architecture.
Hsintien Pitan (Green Lake)
This lake is a part of Hsintien stream, south
of Taipei. Favourite
subjects are cliffs, the clear water, and a 200-meter
suspension
bridge. It is an interesting place for fishing
and boating.
Yangminshan National Park
The Park is situated at the north-eastern edge
of the Taipei Valley in
northern Taiwan. Covering a land area of 11,456
hectares, the park
has at its center the Tatunshan volcanoes.
Wulai Waterfall
Wulai, a famous mountain resort, is 28 km south
of Taipei. Among pleasant features at the resort
is the waterfall, which is 85 m long and 10 m
wide.
San Domingo Fort at Tamsui
The newly-renovated fort was built by the Spanish
in 1629. It stands on top of a hill in Tamsui
in
northern Taiwan. The total land area is 3,736
ping
(1.8 x 1.8 m).
