I'm going to follow the tradition of my Europe story whereby there is a topic on toilets! And in China, few things need to be said on this 'popular' subject.
Toilets, for us on this tour group is known as 'karaoke'! So, we will go about asking others whether 'do you want to go karaoke' and you will know what it means!
The public toilets condition in China nowadays is a far, far cry compared to few years back. Back then, they don't have doors - so it's a 'free show' for all. You get to see people's butts, that's what. A friend of mine even said that there was one time, one of the locals actually squatted from the front. Wow, I salute the act! The modern rules nowadays have made us more shy in revealing our you-know-what.
Fortunately, all the toilets I went are with doors. But there were some where the doors are just until your neckline. You need to pay a few cents to gain entry. They say the only toilets that are free is at the airports and inside the restaurants.
Are they clean? Well, for a simple person like me, I would say that it's basically clean. But for very 'clean' people, it's still a yucky issue. I'll just say that one is certainly not tempted to remain in the toilet room than necessary.
