LiLi’s Weekend Gabs - Feb2Wk98 (Feel Good)

Entry: 17.2.1998

Today has been such a great day that I couldn't just let it go by without mentioning a few words. Maybe some of you may be reminded that I am some sort like Doogie Howser - always writing at the PC at the end of the day like a diary. Well, it's just nice to get your thoughts out.

For a pessimist like me, I always feel happy if there isn't any major disaster up. But today has been particularly fine.

For one thing, this week I don't have to "bancuh" Chinese tea for the #%@#$#@ Korean GM early in the morning. Yeah, some of you may be surprised to hear this for the first time, eh? Mmm... just as well might tell you why I ended up making tea for him in the first place. One day, this GM (referred to as the big boss in some of my previous mails), came up to me one morning coz he was curious to know why I always seemed to be early at the office each morning. Maybe I'm really dumb or just plain truthful coz I point blank told him that I need to be early in order to park at a shady area. So he summarized for me that I come early only for the car. Then after a few minutes, he announced to me that from that day onwards, I should make tea for him each morning.

Well, the #@$#@$@ Korean GM is on a one week business trip back to Korea so I can afford one's week reprieve from my morning duty. Oh, did I mention that if I'm unlucky, I may be called to make coffee too? Betul-betul celaka punya. My whole life, I never even make such concoction for my folks. But I get smarter now, not to be at my table when I see some visitors around. Actually, the clerk's suppose to be doing this but sometimes she's not around. I can still write a few things to condemn this $%@$#$ GM, but that would take a whole day. Oh yeah, notice that I'm writing from home. Hey, you never know whether this guy is in the vein of Nixon and cause a Watergate scandal in Samsung.

Then work was fine. Completed a reporting program which I thought would run for at least 30 minutes but it ended up just 5 minutes instead. There is a sense of achievement considering how much I hate to do programming and mostly have to be learnt on your own. Next stop, doing reporting through another way in SAP but involves a number of steps. With this, I have tremendous pressure to produce some user reports as soon as possible (wish me luck!). I have to learn from another consultant (Sales) as the consultant for my module (Production) is not so familiar to it. I stayed back until 9pm just to be an "audience" on the problems that may occur during some transports of information structure between the test client and the productive client. Picking up bits and pieces of information here and there but actually most of the time ended up chatting with the German lady consultant whose actually quite the same age as I am. What an inspiration that girl... She went backpacking with a girlfriend around Europe at 17. Now, she's flying all over the world when she has her one week off.

All these new things to learn at work - bits and pieces but not the complete picture really sort of confirms that my life is meant to be Jack of all trades, master of none. Oh swell....

Today's dinner also very good coz I didn't take my dinner at the factory's cafeteria which I normally do if I stay back late. When I got back there's one of my favourite dish - ikan bilis chilli. And there's a glass of coconut water, a bowl of guava and a plate of jackfruit (nangka). Cowabunga!

And last of all, always great to get emails from friends but topping off the list (I hope you don't mind me saying) - today was definitely great due to the fact that I've at long last received a letter from my Spanish penpal. I thought we lost contact for months. It's just wonderful to receive news from her coz I never lost faith that she'll reply to me. We've been like writing since I was in Form 3, making that.... more than 9 years already! Just fantastic!

And I'm off to continue an intriguing novel - Caused of Death by Patricia Cornwell. Eu Cheng, you are right - this book's main character macam Dana Scully aje. Definitely interesting. However, I've yet to watch Hard Rain nor the Devil's Advocate.

Regards,
Li Li
