LiLi’s Weekend Stories - Sep2Wk98 (Labu/Nilai)

Entry: 13.9.1998

Hi people!

This week I brought along a company for my "unusual" escapade. Back when I was in PJ during university days, I had this idea of taking a "joyride" of every available mini bus of different routes around the Klang Valley just to get a feel of how big the area is. But alas, I did not achieve this 'coz somehow going on short trips with either my housemates or coursemates made the opportunity for me to do the same thing (of course not all of it).

So, I'm back in my hometown with real itchy legs. It has been a good solid year since after graduation and the Europe trip. I'm just thankful and glad of the many outings that came after because I was afraid to be caught up in the "real working world". I love stretching my legs and experiencing new sights and people and what better way to do that is by travelling, be it with friends or even alone.

This weekend I decided to make a first step into taking the "joyrides" in Negeri Sembilan area.

My company mentioned earlier is non other than my mom herself! Well, she actually was enthutiastic about joining me - guessed she was as curious as me about where some of the buses go to. Earlier decided on the Labu/Nilai route because I had zilch knowledge on where Labu is especially when I stayed at Taman Bukit Labu and a lot of people taught I lived real far because of the Labu name.

Our ride started off something like after 10.30am. I just told the bus driver that we'll like to stop at the last bus stop. It surprised me that the journey only costs RM1.50 a person.

The bus was old and rickety and real noisy due to the window metal bars heavy vibrations. I liked it! It's like a country ride.

The trip was rewarding in the sense that I didn't know that another Taman existed just after Bukit Kaya. The usual kampung scenery followed but I really admired the serenity of the villages and it's real nice to see each of the houses having a vast compound to itself. We passed by the Labu Resort and Sek. Men. Agama Persekutuan Labu (so, Nisah, this was your school huh?!). Along the way, nearing Batu 10 (I think), we could catch glimpses of the railway track - the one the KL-Seremban commuter train uses.

After Labu, we're off to the township of Nilai. A once quaint old town, the new Nilai is bustling with new shophouses, factories and housing estates. The last bus stop was reached when we arrived in Taman Permata but there was no indication of it being the last station.

Anyhow, I informed the driver that we'll like to take his bus to go back to Seremban. By then, he realized that we were just "joyriders" - "Oh... you datang, jalan-jalan kah?!"

Learning the fact we weren't the "normal" commuters, the bus driver started to become our inofficial tourist guide! Being a Singh, his Bahasa Melayu was not easy to interpret. There were times that I just go nodding my head without a clue as to what he was trying to say - just to be polite. Anyhow, we had a 20 minutes stop at old Nilai town.

There, mom bought a few 4-digit tickets on the bus number to see whether we'll have some luck on this trip. If we win something, then maybe it will refute what my dad said to us this morning about the trip being a "stupid" one. But you knowlah, I shall be very happy to continue my "stupid" trips because of the motto "Been there, done that".

Mom also bought some guava which were cheap compared to Seremban ones. On our journey back, the drizzling rain had stopped and we welcomed the cool breezy air that followed.

Today, I managed to write because I didn't go out this afternoon onwards. I was just damned tired and glad that I finally had an afternoon nap/sleep in ages. The whole week had been working like crazy and was tensed up due to some upgrade project. The tension will continue till next, next week and I hope to unleash some of the pressure next week when I go to catch one of the Commonwealth Games event next week. Got so much to blab regarding the project I'm working on but it will have me bitching about the management of the project. Might as well try to cool myself rather than waste time about it.

Regards,
Li Li
