LiLi’s Weekend Gabs - Apr4Wk99 (Here at Petronas)

Entry: 2.5.1999

Hi,

This week stayed at home - played bowling (still maintaining the score above 100) and watched Waterboy on VCD which was an enjoyable and funny show. Talking about movies, I also caught Pleasantville the other day with Onn Wei at KLCC's Tanjung Golden Village, making it the first show I caught over there. The film was unique and a 'pleasant' watch.

Some random diaries again written at the office.....

20/4/99 - The Lifts Can Go Crazy
----------------------------------------------

No, don't panic! I just thought this title was pretty eye-catching. Actually, we sometimes face problems with the elevators for 43-61 floors at the 41st floors whereby they don't work. So what we have to do was to take the elevators for 62-82 floors. Somehow the floors which we managed to stop was 70 (I think). After that we had to walk around to another set of elevators where we could take the lift down to the 60th floor. So far for the period I'm at Petronas, this case has happened twice.

21/4/99 - My sitting-area
----------------------------------

I'm sitting at a corner with my back facing the windows. It's a nice corner - you won't know what I'm doing with the computer and I can tell when someone's coming. In other words, sometimes I can play games 'safely'. So far, I've been playing Solitaire and Minesweeper sometimes while waiting for feedback from the Petronas analyst. It's getting boring. I should have copied some games from home. Unfortunately my PC is only 486-33s Compaq series. They gave Pentium PCs to their own employees. I'm actually using Windows 3.1! Slow but what to do...

My table is a flat-round table which is actually meant for small meetings. Two PCs on the table. Currently I'm sitting with a colleague. He's absolutely weird. The first thing he says when he comes in is 'Shit, shit, shit'. When he hits a problem, it's 'shit, shit, shit' again. He has borrowed my pen for two days but funnily doesn't ask for it today. He hates the company more than I do but he has hanged on with it for a year. He dislikes programming too but seems to know a bit of here and there. He disappears when he feels like it and makes absolutely weird calls. As much as I wouldn't like to overhear, sometimes he makes joke calls with his friends where he's asking for a job or interview. I don't know when it's a bluff or when it's for real. Absolutely weird.

Just now I was asking him whether his monitor was okay because the previous day he had display problems with it and had called helpdesk. He said no problem and anyway he's gonna get sacked. ????

Li Li
