LiLi’s Weekend Stories - Jul2Wk99 (Picnic In The Sky: Gunung Angsi - 3rd climb)

Entry: 14.7.1999 - forgot which day we climbed...

Hi people!

I can't remember too well what went on that day after a lapse of more than two months. I remembered myself assuming wrongly that my colleagues would call me when they reached the commuter station. The saying - "Once Bitten Twice Shy" does not apply to me - This situation has occured before during the Gunung Datuk Rembau trip previous few weeks back and yet I can be so dumb as to let it occur again. Well, that's me..... the bumbling guide..... sigh.....

Anyhow, I was real happy to see some unexpected "attendees like Chee Fong and Clement who came down from Penang. Their presence added to the cheer of the group which includes my other colleagues like Kok Keong, May and Terence.

6 of us crammed into my car. And off we went to our target destination - Ulu Bendol. We started our climb at about 10.30am. We had many occasional stops as some of us were whizzing for breath.....

Met a nice man, Encik Lokman along the way at the point of the toughest part of the climb which involves ladders and ropes. We were quite suspicious of his intentions to climb up again as he has already done that a while ago (he was with a group of MARA people). Between May and me, we thought that he could be after our lunchboxes!

I nearly fell down the gallows when I tried to help Mr. Lokman when I offered a had to pull him up a slope. I must've forgotten the law of physics. Mr. Lokman is not a small man and of course his pull was quite powerful. My heart nearly dropped when I felt like falling over him.

We reached the peak and had a glorious lunch - Ayamas chicken, fried chicken, apples, oranges, tuna sandwiches, apple juice, lime juice, meat/fish balls - mmm.... yummy! By the way, Mr. Lokman wasn't interested in our lunchboxes at all. He was actually a keen photographer.

We had a very satisfying rest before descending. Before ending at the foothill, we had a short dip at a small waterfall. A most refreshing dip indeed. I had been to Angsi before, but the last time I was there, I thought the only good spot for water play was at the river/stream crossing, near the sign "Jeram Kak Lang". Only this time, I now know that a better spot exist further below.

My colleagues had to go back soon after reaching Seremban. Chee Fong had to go up Penang that night and I'm afraid that I caused her delay because I wasn't managing time well. We should have descended earlier or taken a shorter break at the pool. But anyhow, what's done is done. Other than that guilt feeling, I must say it was a good start to our company's first "Weekenders" activity.
