LiLi’s Weekend Stories - Jun4Wkb99 (Gunung Datuk Rembau - 2nd climb)

Entry: 30.6.1999 - forgot which day we climbed...

Hi people!

Some people must think I must be very 'tak han' (free) to bring people up to Gunung Datuk Rembau. Partially right. I think the biggest reason why I do it is because I feel that it's a pleasure to show others some of earth's wonders. To me, natural things big or small (mountains to trees to a tiny insect) could be a lovely thing.

And for that I was kinda sad that my current colleagues weren't able to make it. Some people will get absolutely annoyed with people who 'fong fei kei' (didn't keep their promises) but I guess I've been 'used' to it. For this also, I am pretty happy that my two friends who went up that day were keen in this adventure.

I must admit that I thought going up the second time would be a breeze. I was SO wrong. After 10 minutes of trekking up, I was huffing and puffing like an asthmatic hippo (expression borrowed from another person's writings) - drained of energy. Like after running a hundred miles and feel like crawling to move forward.

I couldn't understand myself either. Just a month ago, bringing Gui and friends was not a problem - we even walked in rain. Then, I thought it could be due to my having the women's monthly agony thingy. Oh shit. The guys must be wondering what the heck was wrong with me when I just felt like stopping and asked them to go ahead without me. But these fellas ain't gonna leave me as it has always been their ground principle that everything must be done together and not leave others behind.

And so I trudged on slowly and occasionally stopped for rest. Thank God there were no yucky leeches on that day. Upon reaching the top, we were greeted by another group of people up there. One or two of them (looking in their late 30s) quite proudlah saying we should be able to make it slightly more than an hour (we reached in 1 hour 45 minutes).

Ignoring their comments, we made our way climbing big rocks before reaching the very peak. Again, another group of people, this time - youngsters were already enjoying the wonderful view.

I was transported back to a tranquil and peaceful state of mind, thanks to the beautiful scenery carpeted below. We had our simple lunch of tuna sandwiches and fruits before exploring the surroundings and finding spots for taking pictures.

Other than scenarios of hills and valleys for our photo shootout, there is also a 'supposedly' footprint of Hang Tuah, a legendary folk hero located on one of the rocks here.

It was a great day to spend the weekend. I'm also thankful to Abdullah on his act of chilvary by offering to take my bag up the mountain. Thanks to both Abdullah and Guan Hoe for going on this trip and putting my faith in people back on track.

Take care.

Regards,
Li Li
