LiLi’s Weekend Gabs - Mac4Wk99 (Petronas Twin Towers)

Entry: 29.3.1999

Hi,

Petronas Twin Towers

-----------------------------------

Guess what, I'm working at the tallest building in the world!!! Of course, this statement is still valid for today. I'm at the 60th floor of Petronas Twin Towers. Yep!! I'm working on yet 'another' programming project which involves checking on existing programs whereby the system there will be shifted from R2 level to R3. Later, they are going to use SAP version 4.0B. Wow, huh.

They've got modern toilets - the ones with sensors even in the washing basins. They have helpdesk which actually gives you a report number for your problem where you can follow up later. The employees cubicles are real nice. There are many people working (I think some are unneccessary).

Unfortunately, I shall not divulge the details of my work or about working here. In summary I'm not having a good time here but am finding a way out - hopefully soon. Samsung is better compared to the two companies I've worked with so far. Mainly because for its people and their dedication.

Rembau/Tampin

--------------------------

The other day (Saturday) went for a joyride to Rembau and Tampin with Wen Szu. Pssst... don't tell mom about it. You know me, I never want them to know about these things - they'll get worried sick and of course be mad at me!

Anyway, we (with Mai Cheng) were suppose to climb this Gunung Dato Rembau in the early morning. I even bought all the necessary foodstuff so that we would have enough energy and even a probable picnic on top. We looked forward to it coz we haven't been on an outing a long time. Myself - always pleased to try out new places. Actually, I don't know the exact way as I haven't been there before. We thought that it would be safe coz I heard from someone that there are people who go there because of a stream there. It was gonna be pretty exciting I believe.

However, on Friday night, when I wanted to confirm with Mai Cheng, she phoned up to tell me that her father says it's a dangerous place lah... no proper treks lah.... there could be tigers lah... there's a risky place to climb lah.... etc. So she says she couldn't go. Yes of course we know the dangers that may lurk. I just wished she had told her folks earlier instead of raising false hopes.

For me, I really needed something to do this weekend because of the Monday holiday for Hari Raya Haji. So I decided we should go on a joyride there especially it's a nice stretch to Tampin with lovely countryside. I've been there thrice and thought Wen Szu will enjoy it.

So, we did head off there the next day. We went to the foothill of the mountain to check out on the stream but we were disappointed that it's not really a nice spot - many insects and small stream. Plus nobody except for a Malay guy who showed us the way there but then he left. We left there after having explored the path which leads up to the mountain top.

Then we were off to Tampin town where I just drove around before turning back. We had fun enjoying the country breeze as Wen Szu decided it would be great to get fresh air in the car. Of course, we had occasional laughs trying to quickly wind up the windows when a smoky bus passes along. There was also an interesting Esso gas station because it really looked like the highway gas stations in the US where there isn't a proper building just two petrol pumps along the road.

On the way back we stopped to buy lemang which was sold at RM5.00. I thought of buying another but our next stop's lemang costs RM7.00. I didn't like the ballooned price, so we left.

Regards,
Li Li
