Fremantle
Football as been in the strong coastal town of Fremantle from the origins of the game. Fremantle clubs have dominated the game in WA, winning 49 premierships between 1885 and 1994. It was no surprise when a second team from WA would come from Fremantle.
There was some opposition from other clubs to from WA to win the second licence, but the Fremantle Dockers were chosen to play at the start of the 1995 season.
Fremantle had to start with a restricted list of players, many of which were snapped up by the West Coast Eagles. With the number of draft concessions that Fremantle had, they decided to pick up players who already had some AFL experience.
Fremantle also brought new colours to football, they were the first team to wear green and purple in their jumper, and the first to have home and away uniforms.
