One of the top centers in the NCAA, Brendan Haywood should his true potential in the NCAA Tournament. He exploded for 28 points and 15 rebounds in the first round which set the tone of North Carolina's great run to the Final Four. Even when Haywood was not producing, as long as he is in the floor, the defense of the opposing team changes which opens up more scoring opportunities for his teammates. Haywood has potential written all over him. The knock about him is that he shys away from the ball too often. For a guy as big as him and for a player that has a lot of minutes, he only has an average of seven shots per game. He must take a more assertive role in the offensive end. | |||||||||||||||||

Another problem that has contributed Haywood's passiveness in the offensive end is he only has limited post moves and rarely takes a jumper. If you would count Haywood's field goals, most of them were dunks. There was also one point in Shaquille's game the his moves were only dunks. Well at least Haywood shows that he does not force the issue and that he has good shot selection. In this offseason, Haywood must learn an array of inside moves and improve his jump shooting skills. If he adds these two things in his offensive game, North Carolina would be unstoppable. | |||||||||||||||||

As of the moment, the only thing that will stop Haywood from being the best player in college and being the number player taken in next year's draft are his work ethics. If he shows improvement in his game, scouts will drool over him for next year's draft. North Carolina's success will depend on Haywood. If he produces, a Top Five ranking throughout the year will be attained and possibly another trip back to the Final Four. | |||||||||||||||||
