With the departure of Will Avery, Jason Williams was forced to learn the point guard spot as a starter and not as a reserve. It actually help Jason's game. By getting the playing time, his game was forced to mature quickly. He had to contribute and learn at the same time while Duke was making its championship. This was a very hard thing to do because the point guard spot is the hardest position to learn. There was no reason to blame Williams if he struggled in a game or two in the NCAA Tournament. None the less, Williams was always under control and always played with confidence.

Now a sophomore, bigger things will be expected out of Williams. And make no mistake about it, Williams will have a big year. Now he knows how to deal with the pressure and should respond big whenever facing it. Williams will also benefit in running a Duke offensive that has weapons from all over the court. He has a center, a shooter, a leader and the intangibles. He will be the best point guard in the NCAA this season and opposing teams better watch out.
