There are two good things and two bad things going on for the Nets. The Two good things are Kenyon Martin and Byron Scott. Martin will give them the defensive presence they had never had. Naming Byron Scott as the coach quickly changes the team chemistry. Scott should have no problem controlling Stephon Marbury as the two know each other quite well. The two bad things for the Nets are retirement of Jayson Williams and the possible retirement of Kerry Kittles. However, this could actually be a blessing in this guy. They can finally make salary cap room while not paying two injury prone players who cost almost $20M a season. | |||||||||||||||||

Right now, the center position and the shooting guard positions are holes to fill for the Nets. They are pretty much in the point guard spot with Marbury, the small forward spot with Van Horn and the power forward spot with Martin. The shooting guard spot should be filled with Kendall Gill who has been always been criticized as an undersized small forward. Although how much cap room will be free because of the loss of Kittles and Williams is not clear, the Nets should have the cap room to go after a center. With the opening of the free agent market, the New Jersey Nets should look for a center and experience. The best center in the market is Brad Miller. Although he is not the center of the future, Brad Miller knows how to play and should do for now. Another way of having a center is through trade, it would also mean giving up draft picks. With a young team, they should sign veteran players to help turn this young team mature. With their current team and if everything goes according to plan, New Jersey might fight for a playoff spot. However, if everything goes well for the other teams, New Jersey will be left off the playoff hunt. An injury to Marbury, Martin or Van Horn will automatically put them out of the playoff hunt to. The Nets are improving, but until they acquire help in the middle, the Nets should be left off as a playoff team. Getting a Brad Miller and getting a big year from him and Kenyon Martin could also make them a playoff team. | |||||||||||||||||
