The 12 Month Club began at Cummings Beach in the early 90's as, an alternative to windsurfing when the wind was down. The wind was light almost every weekend so the net was always up. Pretty soon we had a core group of people who looked forward to playing every weekend. New players came by word of mouth and our volleyball scene grew. The early days of our group saw some crude equipment and basically any thing goes type rules. It wasn't uncommon to see the whole net come down during a volley. Eventually league like rules were enforced to limit the growing injured list. The name 12 Month Club really belongs to the hard core players who manage to sneak in at least one game a month all year long.We have played some of our finest ball during the off season. Most of the original players are still playing and soon maybe their kids will play too. To many its more than just a game it really is a time to socialize with friends and family. |
