CLASS XI.-BLACK AND TAN SETTERS.
DOGS.
1600. KENT (OLD KENT).Rev. Thomas Pearces, Morden Vicarage, Blandford, Dorset (owned at times by Mr. Rogerson, Rev. F. W. Adye, and Mr. Rowland Wood, of Northampton).
Kents pedigree was never thoroughly known. He was purchased by Mr. Pearce from Sir Edward Hoare, Bart., of Hothfield, Ashford, at the Ashburnham Show of 1863, the first time he was shown. Sir E. Hoare has informed the Editor of the Kennel Club Stud Book, that he bought the dog when quite a puppy from an old rabbit catcher on the Hothfield estate, and that he was brought up
by a cat. Sir E. Hoare believes that Kent came from the Duke of Gordons kennels.
The following pedigree was given to Mr. Rowland Wood, of Northampton, by the Rev. F. W. Adye, who stated that he had compiled it by correspondence with Mr. J. Jobling, of Morpeth and Mr. Kenyon, keeper to Sir R. Crofton, who he (Mr. Adye) believed really bred Kent.
Sire: Shot (black and tan)
Sir Mathew Ridleysliver and tan dog
Dam: A black and tan bitch of Adamsons
Mr. Josh. Jobling states that he exchanged some spare setters with Mr. John Kenyon
(Potters Corner, near Ashford), and that either Scamp or a son of his (black) was the
father of Kent; Kenyon is now dead.
