Rants From the Front Row
June 22, 1999
James Pannell
Well folks, I apologize for no Rants last week, but I had to move. You can all deal with crying yourself to sleep for one week. There have been a lot of major happenings in the wrestling world, so sit back, remove your orthopedic hose, and get ready for a long overdue Rants From the Front Row.
WWF
** The Harts have filed suit against the WWF officially now, and I for think that it would be in the WWF's best interest to just settle this one out of court. The Harts definitely deserve some retribution, but it appears that their goal is to break the company. Owen's death was a tragic accident, but that is all it was, an accident.
** Rena Mero on the other hand deserves to be tied to the back of a car and dragged until her implants pop out. You will not hear me call her Sable, because Sable is a WWF character who we all enjoyed watching. Rena Mero is an opportunistic bitch whom I hope the WWF humiliates in court.
** On to actual wrestling news, it seems that the WWF has finally decided to drop the Beaver Cleavage gimmick. As I have said before, I think that this angle provided some great one liners, but should have been given to a non-wrestler. There is much rumor that the Headbangers will be reformed, which I think would give the WWF some much needed support for the tag division.
** Prince Albert being "tattooed" on camera. Hmmm, I thought that the whole thing was pretty cool, but where does that leave PA and Droz? I'll tell you where that leaves them, it leaves them back to trying to pierce people and getting no where. Maybe(please oh please) the WWF will actually do something with them, but I am not holding my breathe.
** The Big Bossman put on the best match he could on Monday night. They are obviously doing something different with him now, and it is about time. Perhaps now the corporate jobber will get some spark, and who knows maybe even show us some talent. Again, I am not holding my breathe on the latter.
** King of the Ring is actually shaping up to be one of the best PPV's this year. As far as the actual tournament, smart money is on the Big Show, being as he is on all of the posters, but I think we might actually see a queen of the ring. Chyna is looking really good in the ring, and needs something to give her some credibility.
** The Stone Cold/McMahons match could go one of two ways. Either the McMahon's could win, or the McMahon's could win. They will undoubtedly get the crap beat out of them, but Stone Cold cannot possibly gain total control of the company.
** And finally, the Rock/Undertaker match on the other hand really could go either way. If UT wins, it will mean a dead halt in the Rock's rising star, and will set up the rumored Corporate DX. However, if the Rock wins, it would also set up Corporate DX, and give HHH an opponent that can really put him over for the Championship reign he is supposed to get.
WCW
** Hmm, Rena Mero showing up on Nitro last week? This has got to be this years winner for dumb blonde f*ck up of the year. Surely to god the WWF has some kind of clause in her contract forbidding her from being seen on the oppositions show. Rena, YOU ARE STILL UNDER CONTRACT!!!
** We have seen some other familiar faces making their way to Nitro also. I am just going to say this about Master P. He is not very popular anymore, and especially with your typical wrestling fan. I really think the WCW dropped the ball by bringing him in.
** Sid on the other hand was an intelligent acquisition by the ratings underdog. Sid can still draw a crowd, and will definitely help the WCW if he can keep from attacking anyone with scissors. I do not think he will be as big a ratings help as the WCW has hoping for, but that is my opinion, we will just have to see in the next month or so.
** The Lenny Lane/Lodey angle is really starting to irritate me. The ambiguously gay duo has been done, and these two don't have much talent to back it up. I really hope that if the WCW is trying to be raunchy, they pick some other angle to do it.
** I HATE the Cat. I don't want to see him, I don't want to hear him, and I sure as hell don't want him getting as much air time as he has been getting.
** The million dollar question at the moment is who was driving the Hummer. I think that this will either be a way for Hogan to come back, or a way to bring in someone new. I do not think it will be Mero, though, as she is too much of a showboat to be put into the Macho Ho train.
** Mach is still wearing the Muppet pelts, but it seems that the more clothes he puts on, the less the hos wear, which is exactly as it should be.
** And finally, I like the old vs. young angle that is shaping up in WCW. I believe that wrestlers as old as Piper and Flair should only be there to put over younger wrestlers, and that is exactly what they will end up doing. Kuddos WCW.
Big Jim's Whoopin
I know I have already mentioned them, but this week's whoopin goes to Master P and the No Limits soldiers. My god, the first hour of Nitro ain't spiritual hour, keep the birthday parties in the back. For that matter, just keep Master P and his band of merry idiots in the back too.
Ratings
Raw
Hour 1 - 5.9
Hour 2 - 6.1
Composite - 6.0
Nitro
Hour 1 - 3.6
Hour 2 - 2.9
Hour 3 - 2.6
Composite - 3.1
This means that head to head RAW beat Nitro 6.0 to 2.8. Doesn't look like Sid is helping much as of yet.
