Yes, one great interest of mine is basketball. I play and I also take a close look at the finnish national series, eurocup and last but not least to the NBA.
Here in my hometown we have a small bunch of people who are active in basketball. We have a club which was founded nearly 20 years ago. It's called WarBas Ry (Warkauden Basket). Before WarBas, basketball was played under multipurpose club called Varkauden Tarmo. All together basketball has been played here nearly 30 years.
Like I said circuits are pretty small here. Even according to the finnish scale. We have about 50 members, mostly juniors in only couple of teams.
Men are playing II-division eastern conference (that is the team I am playing). Last year the team went all the way to the semifinals of the conference, but lost there. This year we have lost several players, partly and mainly because they left to study in other cities. That is why we will be satisfied if we are able to reach same position in the series again this year.
Me and my playing:
Yes, cos I am this "tall" it is pretty natural that I am basketball player :o) . I am used to being the second smallest guy at the team. This year I am almost second tallest :) Great ha? No, actually not even close. This only means that our team is really small, very young and totally inexperienced.
My position has always been point guard or guard, sometimes I play even as a forward, but never regularly as a center. I have been playing since I was 10-11 years old. Pretty long then. First it was only in my schools club and later in WarBas. The basis of the my game is my agility. In some very optimistic way I am rather fast and my jump is pretty quick (but not too high). That's why I am usually the one who ends our fastbreaks. I also enjoy shooting three pointers (till the couch takes me off the court). I have been very loyal to WarBas cos I have never played for another team. I have to admit that mostly it is because I have not had reason to move (I did all my school here and now working here).
For the season 1999-2000 I have been rented to Heinäveden Hyrske. Team is located 50 kilometres away from my home town. My position there is 2nd guerd (shooting). The team is very young (I am 2nd oldest) and inexperienced but I like playing there because team member are willing to learn and our game improving game by game. I also like my role and our style of play. We defence hard and run a lot.
That's about it.
One more thing, during the summer my friends and I usually go to play basketball outdoors. That is the most fun bunch of sports oriented people can have.
