1997 WFFL Divisional Championships

Maine Veins  58
Salisbury Steaks  19
KEY LARGO- The Maine Veins have chosen the right time of year to catch fire. For the second week in a row, they have scored over 50 points on the road and have humiliated their competition. This week it was the Yancey Thigpen show, who would've guessed that one? Throw in solid performances by Elway and Sanders and the game was over in a hurry. Maine now makes their second trip to the Super Bowl in what has been a fairy tale post-season. For Salisbury, their post-season troubles continue. This was their third Eastern Division Championship in four years and they've won none of them. Coach Loeffler just can't seem to win the big game.

Idaho Bags  49
Hawaii Punch  33
BOISE- Who would've thought that two Steelers would carry their fantasy teams to a WFFL Super Bowl? Well, the Idaho Bags rode the back of the highest scoring QB in the WFFL, Kordell Stewart, all the way. His 5 TD's for 33 points matched the point production of the entire Hawaii Punch team. Hawaii has lost it's second consecutive Division Championship, and now looks to next year to keep their streak of three consecutive first place finishes in the West alive.
SUPER BOWL VII

Maine Veins vs. Idaho Bags

These two teams have spent the last 3 years at the bottom of their divisions with records of 6-34 for Maine and 10-30 for Idaho over that time. For three straight seasons, coaches Moore and Bastyr have squared off in the Pro Bowl. This year, they face each other in another Bowl, the Super Bowl. Both are 1-0 in Super Bowls, and the winner of this one will be the first repeat winner in WFFL history, not to mention the first to climb from a last place season to Super Bowl Champ. Coach Moore has NEVER beaten Coach Bastyr, but he has also NEVER lost a post-season game. Something has to give.

Wagner's Line: Bastyr's record over Moore is impressive, and you can't forget Maine's 6-7 regular season record vs. Idaho's high points. Idaho by 6.
