It may seem a bit backwards, but Diamond Dallas Page began his career as a manager, then color commentator, before stepping in the ring as a grappler. He didn't make his pro debut until 1991. Things turned out well for Page. He had a sucsessful run in WCW, married Playboy model Kimberly Page, who later became a Nitro Girl. After WCW was sold to WWF, Page made a surprise debut in the World Wrestling Federation. He had a good run in the WWF untill a neck injury forced him into retirement.
