Owen
" I met Owen Hart in Texas in March of 1996 on the night of my first wwf match. We sat around for more then an hour sharing memories of family and friends and the business. For both of us, the business was family. we had grown up in it. And, in fact, the branches of our respective family trees had interwined on occasion. When I was a little boy, living in Hawaii, Owens older borther Dean lived there too. Dean Hart used to help my grandparents when they were preparing for a show. I liked Dean alot. I was an only child and kind of looked at as a big brother. I used to chase him around and pester him to play with me. He was a grown man and I can imagine what was going through his mind Will some one get this little brat the hell away from me?but he was always freindly and accessible. Just like Owen.
On May 23,1999 my good freind Owen died. He fell ninety feet while being lowered into the ring before a match. I do not know what happened, what caused this terrible accident, and no intention of ascribing any blame. I only know that backstage in the dressing room, going over details of my upcoming match with HHH and Chyna. We were talking moving around and trying to figure out how to make the match memorable, when Sergeant Slaughter walked into the room and said " Owen is hurt" I looked at hunter then i looked at Sarge and said, "God come on. Are you serious or are you ribbing?" Owen was known for his pranks and I thought maybe this was another example of owens twisted sense of humor.
"No" said "Sarge It looks pretty bad They're working on him in the middle of the ring." My Hart sank. And then is almost seemed stop beating for a moment. I got up, walked down the hall as fast as I could, and I could, and went straight to the curtain. As I reached the gorilla postion where everyone was gathered, I could see their shock of disbelief. People were crying hugging. And then it hit me: this was real. I walked up to the curtain and looked out. The Emts were working on Owen in the middle of the ring giving him Cpr. The crowed was on its feet absolutely silent. My... God thats my friend, I gotta go out there.
So I waited anxiously, helplessly by the curtian, until they weeled Owen on the strecher. I walked along them and said a prayer while looking at his face. Then I helped them load him into the ambulance. I climbed into the passengers sideof the vehicle and looked back and they were still working on Owen. After they drove of we where all in shock. There was a lot of crying and hugging. I felt completely numb. Two mintues after they drove of we were told that owen died. I immediately said a prayer for his family. The next night we made Raw didcated to Owen Hart.
Owen is deeply missed.
