Sunil Joshi
The only player to complete the
double of 500 runs and 50 wickets in one season of the Ranji Trophy, Sunil
Joshi is one of the many cricketers who have forced themsevles into the
Indian side largely on the basis of their performances around the domestic
circuit. A gutsy middle order who has now and then showed a penchant for all out attack in the limited overs game, and an orthdox left arm spinner who has good control over line and length and can really give the ball a healthy tweak, Joshi has been in and out of the national team for some years now. He has been able to command a regular place as an all rounder in both forms of the game. However, to be fair to Joshi, he has never really enjoyed the confidence of the selectors. But he has it in him to be a match winner as he proved by his mesmeric figures of 10-6-6-5 against South Africa in the tri series game in Kenya at the start of the 1999-2000 season. This has easily been the highlight of Joshi's chequered career. But at the domestic level, he is one of the stars. He played a leading role in Karnataka's Ranji Trophy triumphs in the 90s. |
