First up, we have to deal with all the major events that took place last night at the 1999 Survivor Series in Detroit's Joe Louis Arena. My reaction is that it was a decent PPV with a couple of surprises, some good and some bad, and one that came out of left field.
To quote Jim Ross, "It's Showtime," as Paul Wight, better known as the Big Show, takes the place of Steve Austin. The Big Show pulled basically the same thing Mike Awesome did at Anarchy Rulz, walking into a World title match at the WWF Survivor Series against the Rock and Triple H unannounced three hours before, and becoming the WWF World Champ. A quick tidbit on Show... He now goes into an elite group along with Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, and Kevin Nash, being the only men to win both the WWF and WCW World title. Personally, I liked Show becoming the World Champ due to the fact that he should be a main event wrestler and shouldn't be feuding with the likes of the Big Bossman and Prince Albert.
Speaking of the main event, a lot of people aren't very happy that Steve Austin was pulled from the main event last night. The complaint being "Why announce something when it's not going to happen..." That's a very good point, but I for one wasn't very disappointed that the Rattlesnake was pulled from the match. Also, Austin getting hit by that mysterious black car will hopefully will play out to be a great angle. Hopefully the WWF will eventually reveal the driver of the car unlike the person who lifted the briefcase up at the King of the Ring.
Speaking of that mysterious car, who could possibly be the driver of the car that hit Austin? Well, it could have been Billy Gunn... What about the Rock? Could this be the angle that brings Shawn Michaels back to the WWF? There are so many possible scenarios that could go down, and hopefully the driver will be revealed in the near future.
A quick question: Why did the WWF job Chris Jericho to Chyna? If anyone has a good reason, please tell me. This makes no sense. Y2J is one of the most talented young stars on the WWF roster with a nice contract, and should be the WWF Intercontinental Champion. But somehow, even though he had most of the crowd rooting for him, Jericho lost the match to the 9th Wonder of the World, Chyna.
Look for a Hardyz/Edge and Christian feud to start up once again after both teams played a part in their team's loss to the four man squad of Scotty 2 Hotty, Grandmaster Sexy, Crash, and Hardcore Holly. Personally, another Hardyz and Edge & Christian feud wouldn't be bad, but then again, could it be better then their 5 match Terri Invitational Tournament series? Well, Terri, who's managing the Hardyz, looks to be on a collision course with Debra and since Debra isn't managing any one at this very moment, could she hook up with two-thirds of the original brood? It's possible, but I don't know if it's probable.
Enough Survivor Series tidbits for now. A quick reminder for all of the fans of Stone Cold Steve Austin: Tonight, A & E kicks off its pro wrestling week on Biography with Stone Cold Steve Austin: Lord of the Ring at 8 PM. Watch Steve return the ring after an injury nearly paralyzes him. If you would prefer to watch Nitro instead of this edition of biography, then check out the replay at 12:00 midnight.
WWF Wrestlemania 2000 from THQ for the N64 ships today and should be on shelves by Thursday or Friday. This game has been rumored to be the best wrestling game in a long time, as THQ uses the same engine they used for such hits as WCW vs. nWo: World Tour and WCW/nWo Revenge. So if you own a Nintendo 64 and are a big WWF fan or wrestling fan in general, pick WWF2K up.
In some news on two former WWF stars, Too Cold Scorpio and Dr. Death Steve Williams, JR's Boy and the former Flash Funk will be heading over to All Japan Pro Wrestling to work a couple of shows.
In some news on WWF signee, Vic Grimes, Dave Melzer reports that Grimes has moved to the Philadelphia area and will be working full time with ECW. Expect Grimes to have a stay similar to Al Snow's, Droz's, and Brakkus's in ECW; one that helps retool Grimes's character and gives him some more experience.
A little tidbit that I got a couple days ago but neglected to report it for some reason or another... Mankind's appearance on the Howard Stern show from a couple weeks back will be airing on Stern's E! show on Thursday at 11 PM eastern.
Expect a House of pain match between the Filthy Animals and the Revolution to take place tonight on Nitro. I really have no idea what that is supposed to be, but according to Dave Meltzer, it has to do with a cage, shackles, and handcuffs.
In another note from Meltzer, expect an angle involving Juventud Guerrera and immigration to start tonight... I'm guessing that Juvi might not have a green card and may just be an illegal alien.
Here's what to expect tonight on Nitro when it
comes to the World Title Tournament...
- Bret Hart vs. Kidman
- Sting vs. Lex Luger
- Jeff Jarrett vs. Buff Bagwell
- Scott Hall vs. Chris Benoit
One final note for today, expect someone we haven't seen in a while to show up tonight on Nitro according to a statement Bill Banks made on Friday's WCW Live. Now, I really don't know who this could possibly be, but it should be quite interesting.
That does it for today's report. Come back tomorrow
for more news, multimedia, columns, and updates. So until next time, ciao
people.
