4th April 2000
In the dreadful and ever deteriorating weather conditions Scotland proved that on home soil they can still put on a powerful if not heated performance to prevent England winning the Grand Slam this gave them their first win over England for the last nine years. Englands initial points came from a penalty by Wilkinson but was soon replied by a penalty from Scotland taken by Duncan Hodge to level out the score. Constant pressure form the English side on the scots 22 eventually lead to a scrum at 5 yd from which Dallaglio scored and Wilkinson then converted. From this moment on England lost their grip on the game and were steadily run down by a firce Scottish team. Another penalty was scored by Hodge and in the second half as weather conditions continued to deteriorate, and with this being used to the scots advantage another penalty was scored again by Hodge. The final straw was a try and conversion by Hodge, England managed to scrape another penalty which Wilkinson landed from close range but it was too little too late to give the scots a memerable victory.
