A regular tag team partner and travelling companion
in many of the territories was The Canadian Glamour Boy Shane Sewell, who
also calls Peterborough home. "We were tag team partners. We went to England
together, about seven years ago. We were tag team partners there. We were
tag team partners in Arkansas, tag team partners in Puerto Rico. And then
he left Puerto Rico, and I went singles from then on." In Mexico, Morley
wrestled under a mask as Steel for a little more than a year. "I
had a really cool mask, a really unique mask in Mexico. It actually looked
like steel, the mask looked like Steel, like I had metal on my face. It
was totally unique, especially to Mexican standards. It got over really,
really big in Mexico." He held the CMLL heavyweight belt for a spell but
then the WWF came calling.
His first tryout was in the summer of 1997 in Des
Moines, Iowa. Then he went back to Mexico and waiting for the call. The
WWF finally called again, and Morley did two more tryouts in November,
and was invited to take part in a training camp in January. "From there
I got my contract, and we've been working on the Val Venis gimmick ever
since," he said. The gimmick came from Vince McMahon and Vince Russo. And
Morley just ran with it from there. At the moment, Val Venis is sort-of
turning babyface in a feud with Kaientai. "I'm not exactly sure where I
want to go with this yet. Right now, yeah, I'm working an angle with Kaientai
and trying to build a storyline there. But things change day to day. You
never know what's going to happen."
Expect to see him on the road more often from here
on in. He's in Toronto this week for media interviews to promote the August
1 WWF SkyDome show, on which he will wrestle Savio Vega. It will be a homecoming
of sorts for Morley, and he expects lots of friends and family at the show.
"As you know, [Savio's] from Puerto Rico, and I spent a lot of years down
in Puerto Rico. I know him very well. I know his wrestling style. I know
his background. I think it's going to be the first time I've competed against
him one on one. It should be a good match, a real decent match."
Morley is enjoying his time so far in the WWF, and
is looking forward to competiting against the top talent and possibly winning
a belt. (He's a little too big for the lightweight division.) He
has found that everyday is a new experience for him, and that he's still
got a lot to learning after only seven years of wrestling under his belt.
"I think the day that you stop learning is the day you stop wrestling."

After teaming up with the Godfather (and the hos) for several months, the Big Valbowski concentrated on a solo career. He's had stormy affairs with Terri Runnels and Ryan Shamrock, Ken’s younger sister. His fling with Ryan had many fringe benefits, especially the Intercontinental Championship Venis took away from Ken Shamrock at the St. Valentine's Day Massacre on February 14. Venis might not be remembered as the best Intercontinental Champion, but he will be known as "the biggest."
The adult film star Val Venis is one of the most talked-about Federation
Superstars today! Virtually ignored in all the talk about his controversial
persona is the fact that, after all the boasting and gyrating, he is a
gifted athlete. Venis certainly works hard to please the ladies. There
is no telling how far he can go with the same virility in the ring!
Val has not had a long WWF career so there is not much to write about.
He made his television debut on Raw, beating
Scorpio. He then beat Papi Chulo, and went to a no-contest with Dustin
Runnels when the Undertaker attacked both men. He
wrestled Dick Togo from Kaentai one week and after he won, he confronted
Yamaguchi-San's wife. When Kaentai attacked,
he took them out with a chair. Val showed tapes of himself and Mrs.
Yamaguchi in bed, which infuriated her husband. He came
out with a bunch of sausages and used a katana to cut them in half.
He then threatened to "choppy choppy" Val's "pee pee." In
a tag match against Kaetai, long time Kaentai rival Taka Michinoku
betrayed Val and revealed Mrs. Yamaguchi was his sister.
They dragged Val back to the locker room and stripped him down. When
Yamaguchi San raised the sword, the lights went out
and Raw ended. The next week, Val came out with John Bobbitt, and pretended
that they had succeeded. He then raised his
voice and revealed they had not succeeded after all, due to Mr. Bobbitt's
intervention by turning out the lights. He then dumped
Mrs. Yamaguchi San, saying that no woman was worth the kind of trouble
she brought him. The next week, he took on all
members of Kaentai, and won each match, until Taka handed him his first
defeat. He got his first title shot at SummerSlam, but
lost by DQ to D'lo Brown, after shoving a ref. He got into a feud with
The Godfather for awhile, before being attacked by Ken
Shamrock, when Val hit on his sister. At the Royal Rumble, Val tried
to help Billy Gunn win the IC belt from Shamrock, but his
help wasn't enough. He ended up beating Shamrock for the IC strap at
IYH: St. Valentine's Day Massacre, but lost it only
weeks later to "Road Dogg" Jesse James. He was unsuccessful in a Fatal
Four Way at WrestleMania XV with the Dogg,
Shamrock, and Goldust. In a stroke of bad luck, Nicole Bass became
infatuated with him, but he agreed to take her on as his
partner against Jeff Jarrett and Debra at Over the Edge '99. Bass laid
a kiss on Val after the match, and Val actually liked it.
However, their relationship was short-lived when Nicole dumped Val.
Val had his problems with Prince Albert and Droz when
they pierced his nose, so he turned the tables by tattooing Albert's
ass.
