On With the Pictures

The Saturday Group

This is the Motley Crew of Fort Jackson (on the green of Old Hickory #7) with Me, Bob, Bill and Jim. And this is the hole (number 2 on Old Hickory that I got my second hole in one on (Oct 89) 160 yds with 9 iron, it was a windy day and there were witnesses.

Calidonia 2000

Back to Calidonia Country Club on Pawleys Island. Can you believe, shoot a 54 and lose by six strokes. Randy, Lucas, Bill and I enjoyed a great day of fun and the challenge. Thanks Guys.

Oakhills Country Club

Bill invited me to join his buds (Gary and Randy) at Oakhills C.C. for a little golf. After loosing and a quick refreshment or two it was back to the grind. Enjoyed it, lets do it again sometime when your all in town.

Beaver Creek C.C.

This was a thrill.... trying to keep up to son, Scott Jr. Only the end result (score) will prevail. It was a great time. Typical morning, just after a rain, a little fog on the course, and dew on the grass. This golf course is one of a few that had (color) GPS built into the carts. Here we are on #9 fairway and second shot is pin high and 30 feet right (great shot). And this is #11, (par 5) and little did Scott Jr. know that from 86 yards from the pin would he hole it for a 4 (birdie), priceless. Here it is on video of him pulling it out of the hole. So I wont tell you the end result of the day but it was a great day for sharing with family. Can't wait to do it again. Thanks

Spring Valley C.C.

What a great day for golf. The company, the golf, and the weather were partners in putting this all in one day and sharing it with me. As I have always said "Its always better to have bad day playing golf than a good day at work". This is a great golf course and makes you use every club in the bag. Doglegs left and right. Some holes require iron shots off the tee or else you go through the fairway. If you dont know the greens, three and four putts are common. Thanks John for the invitation. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

On the 10th tee , with Jim, John and Bob. And here we are ( Jim, Scott and Bob) on the 16th tee. John going strong for the pin on 16, (great finish, great shot). Bob put his close just under the hole. This shot ended up 20 feet long and 5 feet left (surprized me, great lag).

Sucession Golf Course, Beaufort, SC.

I have been wanting to play this superb golf course for years and got my chance this year. Well this was a real treat! For my birthday this year I got free golf and a caddie for the day. Cole joined to take pictures and give some professional advice. First time I got to be on the other side of the bag since I was a caddie (golf course rules of NO CARTS). Brian (my caddie) was a 2 hcp and knew this golf course. Without his help, there wouldn't have been enough golf balls in the pro shop or from the driving range to help my game. Brian was a little taken back when I told him I wanted to see the whole course by using the back tees. He gave me a thumbs up, and away we went. Thank goodness my driver decided to work that day. Driving over the marsh was a consistant endeavor.
Looking back at the club house from the 1st fairway. And if the tide is out and clear of aligators you can play from the marsh. This is the 1st green , looking back at the fairway (club house to the left). Brian and I going over the strategies of golf. This was one of those holes that produced the question, " OK Brian, what do I do for this shot? A par 5 in which the second shot is a 6 iron to play it safe or a 3 wood over the marsh. Quess which one I did? Brian and I on the 7th tee box (I did par this one, I remember). No, this was not one of my approach shots, this was just a great picture I thought I would take. This hole (11th) got to me. I have been hitting the driver great all day, and then sky two (yes two), drives into the lake on the right, trying to cut the corner. Here's a shot looking back at the tee box (11) in the opening of the trees over the road. On the 11th green. This green is 63 yards long (remember the longest fieldgoal in the NFL?). By the way, did I mention that these greens were like putting on glass? Even my 3 foot lag putts went forever. "Putter please ". Just like the pros.....caddie walking DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY, right after you hit your drive (12th hole)(don't you just love it). Cole and I on the 13th tee box (I got to birdie this one). This is Sucession's signature hole, and I can see why. Cole on the 14th tee box. Great picture of the 14th green (from fairway). Cole tries his stroke on the 14th green. You can sure tell a well manicured golf course. This is the 16th, a long par 4 (from the back tees, wow) and with tall lips in the traps this thick, I wonder who comes out and uses sissors to trim them. Again, what a great golf course. Ah, yes, the 17th. Play the wind right and you will be rewarded, or........ If you don't, then you could end up left of the green, the wall and might even get.... a shot to save par. Not me, nooOOoo, I had to hit it on then it rolls off the other side. A one handed Sand iron from the marsh (Chi Chi would have been proud of me) into the cup for a 4. Best shot of the day. A great picture from the tee of the 18th. What a hole. Doglegs left and you need to know how far you CAN or CAN'T hit your driver. Only Brian knew my game and how I could hit a drive to cut a corner on this magnificent hole (18th) . This is the 18th, a great finishing hole. Thanks Brian, you did great!

Miracle Hills, Golf Course, Omaha, Neb.

Well you can put me in any foursome and it just so happens to be family. Me, Dad, Mike and Bill. Hoop, holler, and rib jabbing the whole way around the course. Putting a foursome on this golf course means trouble. I remember the day this happened, later that year I even got to play golf with Bob. He and Woosey kind of look alike. And here we are trying to duplicate the amazing feat done years ago. There is a possible true story on this historic day that only a few of us know (right Jay?).

The AEC (Administrative Employees Club) Masters Tournament at Crickentree G.C. in Blythewood, SC.

This was a lot of fun, especially with the right company, which included Bobby, Bill and John, you can forget about having any kind of a normal score. This hole was fun, right John? By the way John, did you bother to yell F_O_U_R ? And since we have some time on our hands ....... Here we are on the 17th par 3. Take a guess how many balls went in the water?

The 2000 Masters

At the first tee box. The eleventh green. This is a picture of the group of Fuzzy Zoeller, John Daly and ?? Picture of the 13th green from the fairway (drive). In front of the 13th green is (from left to right) me, Gail, James, and Jim. The thirteenth green. Here's James dreaming in the 15th fairway. Maybe next year James. James, you want to wait until they get off the green first? Oh, sorry, didn't know you were laying up. James on the 15th fairway dreaming and still shanks it. Even when you put a club in James hand , he still sends it right. Here I am on the 18th fairway (dreaming). They haven't posted our scores yet (me, Gail and Jim VV., and James).

The Thursdays Group

These boys invited me on one of their outings. It was a great time and I will never forget the hospitality given. Thanks guys.

Calidonia

Randy invited Bill, Lucas and myself to Calidonia for a little "Captains Choice". This golf course is probably one of the best manicured courses I have seen. Being renovated from a old plantation reminds me of the entrance of Augusta. The signature hole is the 11th, which is a par 3 and the green slopes away from you. We had some fun with Bill's ball on this hole. The 14th is a great hole as well, with water on the left and a large tree guarding the green from the left side of the fairway which you need to go over if on the left side (rough or fairway) to get to the green. The 16th is a great (and short but you couldn't tell us last year (5) par 4 with a pond in front of the green. And the green slopes towards the water so don't Greg Norman it.

Dad's Sunday Group

Isn't it true that the guy with the biggest smile usually has more change in his pocket than when he arrived. On the 18th green.

St. Matthews

This was a great spring day at the Calhoun Country Club in St. Matthews. I had the pleasure of grouping with Bob, Bob and Tim for a great afternoon of golf. These greens were like glass and had a hard time keeping them close to the pin. This golf course was in great shape and well taken care of. Bob had move some so called " snakes" so we just turn away while he battles the beasts. Meanwhile, Bob is keeping it in the middle so that he doesn't have to worry about any kind of hazards. If I'm not mistaken, this was one of Bob's best drives. Guess who drove into the trees on this one. Thanks guys, I had a lot of fun.

Myrtle Beach National

Lee, Scott and myself on a day of 36 holes at Myrtle National Golf Club in Myrtle Beach. We played 18 on Myrtle West in the morning and in the afternoon on Kings North. Well just like the days of ol', little ribbin here and there and the snake bet was alive and well and when it was all over, we had to continue it at the 19th hole. This golf course has everything, water, sand, trees, dog legs, island greens, island fairways, etc.. Yes, every club in your bag is used.
The 9th hole at Myrtle West was unbelievable. All carry to the green unless you bailed out right. And this is my favorite hole (#6) at Kings North (right Scott A.?). Its called "THE GAMBLER". Since we always play from the back tees (some gripe about it (or whine)), this is the most exciting golf hole I have ever played (birdied it twice). You can go for the island fairway or bail out right and still have to go over the water. Ok, I lost $, but the memories will never be lost. Thanks guys, lets do it again.

Fort Jackson

This 36 hole golf course is one of the longer (from the Black tees) courses around. It makes you use every club in your bag and precision shots a must. Besides the sand traps, grass bunkers and up and down holes added amenities are gullies, lakes, ponds, trees, and the occasional, fox, deer, racoon, and bandit squirrels. Here at the 12th of Old Hickory, you tee off over a waste area and then try to keep it from going into one of the many traps. The 13th is a par 5 dogleg right. Here is about where you hit your second shot. The 17th is a testy little par 3 that intimidates you as you over look the green and the pond in front. The 18th is a dogleg left par 4, and a great finishing hole.

The University Club

It was a great day for golf. Too bad I didn't bring my game. We all had fun and Glen, Bill, Sam and myself took on the University Club's golf course (27 holes). The signature hole is a par 4, 90 degree to the right dogleg and the Gamecock claw in the fairway sandtrap. Two of us found that trap and made for a tough shot to the green. This par 3 over the lake "ate" one of Glen's (reload Glen) projectiles. Sam didn't have any trouble and Bill and I felt lucky to just get over the water as our game was deteriorating.

The 1997 Masters

Well Bobby and I get to go to the "97 Masters", as our friend (thanks JJ) gave us some tickets for the day. Had a great time and got to see the "Big Boys" do their stuff. Here I am on the 15th fairway and its only a wedge to the green from here. Just to show you what you can do with the same picture. And this is in the middle of the 17th with the "Eisenhower Tree" to the right. Well since you can't read my name on the scoreboard, I guess I will have to just stay out of focus from it.

BACK HOME BOYS

What a motley crew. Talk about trouble makers.

1982 U.S. OPEN

WOW! My first time at a or any Professional Golf tournament. As much as I like golf and then to be able to go to my first PGA tournament. This is on the 17th green grandstands waiting for Jack Nicholas to show up. And there he is. I was amazed at how good these guys are. This is on the driving range and I don't have clue as to who these two are. Besides, I just wanted pictures..... Here's Jack Nicholas at the driving range. That motor home goes to all the events and makes clubs on the spot for any and all the players. Johnny Miller had a set made for him while Johnny was practicing on the driving range. Took the guy about 10-15 minutes to make a whole set of irons. What an experience. Any and every golfer should go to at least one PGA tournament if you have ever touched a golf club or played.
