Christmas in Prague

This year we decided to spend Christmas in Prague in the Czech Republic.

We expected it to be cold and snowy, having the Chistmassy surroundings that we never seem to get in England. How wrong we were. Although it was cold at times it was never freezing.

Despite this, Angela insisted on wearing her new long coat and fury hat!

The building in the background is the Powder Tower.

I suppose that the unseasonally good weather did mean that we were able to get around much more and we were able to see much more of the beautiful architecture of the city.

The Church of Our Lady of Tyn

This clock, set in the old town hall, chimes on the hour and has moving figures. On the middle row there is Death (represented as a skeleton), who is nodding 'Yes' to the Turk, the Rich man and Money Leander who are all shaking their heads 'No'.

Karlstein Castle

We took a half day trip out to Karlstein Castle which is one of the best examples of Bohemian Gothic architechture.

The tour around the castle was a little rushed and the guide did not speak English very well (it was billed as an English tour) but the beauty of the castle and the contents made up for it.

There were several areas of the castle that were out of bounds to tourists, some rooms had been damaged by tourism, however there was sufficient to see to make the tour worth while.

The hat and coat came along on this trip as well. At one point Angela was asked to pose as the photographer thought her attire fitted in with the surroundings !
