LOS ANGELES (AP) - Michael Tucker and Ed Taubensee homered and Steve Parris bounced back from two sub-par efforts with six strong innings as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 Sunday. Shawn Green homered and doubled twice for the Dodgers. Gary Sheffield homered in all three games of the series for Los Angeles, but twice left the bases loaded in the finale. Parris (1-2) allowed a run and three hits. In his previous outings, he surrendered a combined 10 earned runs over nine innings against Chicago and Colorado. Sheffield hit his fifth home run leading off the sixth. Danny Graves earned his second save. Los Angeles starter Chan Ho Park (2-1) was charged with three runs, two earned, and four hits in seven innings.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Eddie Taubensee, batting cleanup for the first time since 1998, matched his career-high with four RBIs Saturday night as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4. Taubensee's two-run double off Alan Mills (0-1) in the seventh snapped a 3-3 tie. Barry Larkin and Ken Griffey Jr. drew two-out walks before Taubensee lined a 2-2 pitch into the right-field corner. Scott Williamson (1-1) got two outs for the victory. Danny Graves pitched two innings to earn his team's first save of the season. The loss snapped a five-game Dodgers' winning streak, which equaled their longest since they won seven straight in 1997.

Los Angeles Dodgers 8, Cincinnati Reds 1
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Orel Hershiser, star of the 1988 World Series, made a triumphant return to Dodger Stadium on Friday. Hershiser, back with Los Angeles after a five-year absence, pitched six strong innings as the Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-1 in their home opener. The 41-year-old right-hander scattered six hits before being relieved by Terry Adams to start the seventh with the Dodgers leading 2-1. Hershiser (1-0) walked two and struck out two as the Dodgers won their fifth straight. Gary Sheffield had three hits and drove in the first two Los Angeles runs. His two-out homer off rookie Rob Bell (0-1) in the first gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. Bell allowed four hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings while walking one and striking out six. The Dodgers broke the game open with six runs off Scott Sullivan and Dennys Reyes in the seventh.

Los Angeles Dodgers 11, San Francisco Giants 7
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Shawn Green had three hits, including his first home run for Los Angeles as the Dodgers beat San Francisco 11-7 Thursday night to complete a sweep of the Giants' inaugural home series at Pacific Bell Park. The three-game sweep was Los Angeles' first in San Francisco since April 1981. Earlier Thursday, the Dodgers beat the Giants 6-5 in the completion of a game suspended from the previous night by rain. Carlos Perez (1-1) recovered from a poor first outing and pitched six strong innings for the victory. He gave up three runs and six hits, struck out three and walked one as the Dodgers won their fourth straight. Jeff Shaw got the final two outs in the ninth for his fourth save, and second of the day. Mark Gardner (1-1) was charged with the Giants' fifth straight loss.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - It took nearly 24 hours to complete, but the Los Angeles Dodgers continued to ruin the San Francisco Giants' housewarming party. The Dodgers beat the Giants 6-5 Thursday night at Pacific Bell Park in the completion of a game suspended from the previous night. Terry Adams (1-0) threw 1 2/3 innings of one-hit relief to earn the victory. Adrian Beltre drove in two runs and the Dodgers scored three times in the seventh inning off Ben Weber (0-1) to erase a one-run deficit and win their third straight, including both games at Pac Bell Park -- the Giants' new home. Rich Aurilia homered and drove in three runs for the Giants, who lost their fourth straight. Jeff Shaw pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save.

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants, Suspended
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The swirling winds may have been left behind at Candlestick Park, but there's no stopping the rain. The first night game at Pacific Bell Park was interrupted by a downpour Wednesday night, and it was suspended in the sixth inning with the Los Angeles Dodgers leading the San Francisco Giants, 3-2. The teams will complete the game from the point it was stopped on Thursday at 5:05 p.m. PT. The Dodgers and Giants are scheduled to play Thursday night at 7:35 p.m., or 30 minutes following the completion of the suspended game. The Giants were coming to bat in the bottom half of the sixth inning when it began to rain heavily, sending the sellout crowd scrambling. Play was halted and a tarp was rolled out to cover the infield, heralding the first weather delay at Pac Bell Park a day after its grand opening. It was suspended after a delay of 1:38.
Dodgers' Brown goes on DL; Perez recalled
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Kevin Brown, who broke his right pinkie last
weekend, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday by the
Los Angeles Dodgers, who recalled left-hander Carlos Perez. Brown
was injured Saturday during a game against the New York Mets when
a pitch hit him on the knuckle as he attempted to bunt. The
roster move is retroactive to Sunday, meaning he could be
activated April 24. Perez was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque
and will start Thursday night's game against the Giants. The team
had planned to recall Perez the day of his start, but brought him
up a day early so he could watch Wednesday night's game against
the Giants from the dugout and get a feel for San Francisco's new
ballpark.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Kevin Elster made a splash in the opener of Pacific Bell Park, and he didn't even put the ball in the drink. Elster homered three times to overcome one each by Barry Bonds, J.T. Snow and Doug Mirabelli and lead the Los Angeles Dodgers over the San Francisco Giants 6-5 Tuesday. Elster, who was out of baseball last year and made the Dodgers as a non-roster player, had the first homer in the cozy park, a third-inning drive off Kirk Rueter (0-1) that tied it at 1. He hit a two-run shot in a three-run fifth and added a solo homer in the eighth off Felix Rodriguez, finishing 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the first three-homer game of his career. Chan Ho Park (2-0) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings.
Dodgers' Olson goes on disabled list
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Reliever Gregg Olson, who has an irritated
nerve in his right forearm, was placed on the disabled list by
the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday. Left-hander Jeff Williams was
recalled from Albuquerque of the Pacific Coast League to take his
place on the roster. Olson had a 9.00 ERA in two appearances this
season, allowing two earned runs on three hits in two innings for
the Dodgers.

Dodgers' Brown out for two weeks; Olson headed to DL
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Ace Kevin Brown is expected to miss two
weeks with a broken pinkie on his pitching hand, reliever Gregg
Olson has an irritated nerve in his forearm and the Los Angeles
Dodgers are feeling banged up just a week into the season. Brown
and Olson were in Los Angeles for medical exams Monday as the
Dodgers worked out in new Pacific Bell Park before they face the
San Francisco Giants in the stadium's debut on Tuesday. Left
fielder Gary Sheffield, who was carted in a wheelchair through
the airport when the Dodgers left New York on Sunday, said his
sprained right ankle was better -- but he was uncertain for
Tuesday's game. First baseman Eric Karros did not take batting
practice Monday because of a stiff back. Reliever Mike Fetters,
who felt a pull in his left quadriceps Saturday in New York, was
feeling fine Monday.

Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets, Postponed
NEW YORK (AP) - An unusual spring snowstorm forced postponement of Sunday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets. The game was rescheduled for April 24 at 7:10 p.m. ET. The makeup date came between home games for the Mets. For Los Angeles, it is squeezed between trips to Cincinnati and Atlanta. The teams had split the first two games of their series in the Dodgers' only scheduled visit to New York this season. Sunday's game was called off about 2 1/2 hours before it was supposed to begin. Snow covered the field and more was falling -- it also was about 40 degrees colder than the mid-70s temperatures of a day earlier.

NEW YORK (AP) - Devon White hit a game-tying three-run homer with two out in the ninth and Eric Karros hit his second homer of the game in the 10th as the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied Saturday to beat the New York Mets 6-5. Dodgers ace Kevin Brown left the game with a broken right pinkie after fouling off a pitch while attempting to bunt in the fifth and will miss 3-to-4 weeks. Former Mets closer John Franco wasted a 5-1 lead in the ninth, first allowing a leadoff homer to Karros. White connected with two outs off Franco, and Mike Fetters (1-0) escaped a two-on, two-out jam in the bottom half when Melvin Mora struck out. Karros then homered with two out in the 10th off Armando Benitez (0-1) for the 15th multihomer game of his career. Jeff Shaw pitched a perfect 10th for his first save.
Brown, Sheffield and others injured in Dodgers' win
NEW YORK (AP) - The glum looks on the Dodgers' faces told it all.
While this was a win in the standings, Los Angeles left Shea
Stadium feeling like losers. "At the expense of today's win,
you'd rather take the `L' and get out of here healthy," Eric
Karros said after Los Angeles rallied from a four-run,
ninth-inning deficit for a dramatic 6-5, 10-inning win over the
New York Mets. That's because the Dodgers lost Kevin Brown. And
Gary Sheffield. And not to be overlooked, Mike Fetters and Gregg
Olson were injured, too. Brown broke the pinkie on his right
(pitching) hand trying to bunt in the fifth inning. Johnson says
the $105 million man, baseball's highest-paid player, is going on
the disabled list and will be out for at least 3-to-4 weeks.
Sheffield sprained his right ankle trying to catch Jon Nunnally's
first-inning fly ball.

New York Mets 2, Los Angeles Dodgers 1
NEW YORK (AP) - Rick Reed overcame the Mets' early season offensive funk Friday night, allowing four hits one run in 7 2/3 innings to give New York a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Reed (1-0) threw strikes early in the count and held the Dodgers to four hits and one walk in an efficient 111-pitch outing. The only run he allowed came on Gary Sheffield's solo homer in the fourth inning. The Mets, who entered the game hitting .193 with 15 runs in five games, gave Reed all the support he needed in the first inning against Darren Dreifort (0-1). Jon Nunnally, filling in for the struggling Rickey Henderson, drew a leadoff walk, and one out later Edgardo Alfonzo also walked. Mike Piazza then hit a an RBI double. Robin Ventura drove in his first run of the season on a groundout to second base.
Dodgers send Perez down, call up Berroa
NEW YORK (AP) - Carlos Perez was sent down to the minors Friday,
one day after getting knocked out in the fifth inning of his
season debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles purchased
the contract of outfielder Geronimo Berroa from Triple-A
Albuquerque, filling Perez's place on the roster. Perez, who went
2-10 with a 7.43 ERA with Los Angeles last season, lost his first
start this year, allowing eight runs -- five earned -- in 4 2/3
innings of a 11-3 loss at Montreal on Thursday night. "He's very
disappointed," general manager Kevin Malone said. "He felt like
he had his confidence back and could help this club. He felt he
could contribute in the bullpen. We felt he'd be better off
pitching every fifth day." With two days off coming up, Perez
wouldn't have been needed again until April 21 at Cincinnati. He
will start for Albuquerque on Tuesday and next Sunday.

Montreal Expos 11, Los Angeles Dodgers 3
MONTREAL (AP) - Orlando Cabrera and Chris Widger hit three-run homers and Vladimir Guerrero had a two-run shot Thursday night to lead the Montreal Expos to an 11-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Carl Pavano (1-0) gave up one run and five hits in eight strong innings. He struck out three and walked one. After losing the first two games of the season by identical 10-4 scores, the Expos recovered to win the final two games of the series. Cabrera had a career-high four RBIs. He went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI single. Cabrera's homer keyed Montreal's five-run second inning. Widger's towering shot down the left-field line chased former Expo Carlos Perez (0-1) with two outs in the fifth. Perez allowed eight runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

MONTREAL (AP) - Rondell White hit a two-run single off Jeff Shaw in the ninth as the Montreal Expos beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-5, Wednesday night after wasting a two-run lead an inning earlier. On a night when Orel Hershiser made his first appearance for the Dodgers since Aug. 7, 1994, the Dodgers trailed 4-2 until pinch-hitter Dave Hansen's three-run homer in the eighth off Ugueth Urbina, who led the NL with 41 saves last season. But Shaw (0-1) couldn't hold the lead, and the Dodgers lost for the first time in three games. Anthony Telford (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win, allowing two hits. Hershiser, who signed with the Dodgers during the offseason as a free agent, allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings.

MONTREAL (AP) - Gary Sheffield's two-run homer off Hideki Irabu highlighted a seven-run third inning Tuesday night, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Montreal Expos 10-4 for the second straight game. Los Angeles had 17 hits, including eight off Irabu (0-1), who was making his National League debut. Irabu, acquired from the Yankees in a Dec. 22 trade, gave up six runs and two walks in two-plus innings, including a leadoff homer to Devon White in the first. Chan Ho Park (1-0) allowed four runs -- three earned -- and six hits in six innings. Los Angeles had seven straight hits in its big inning. Mark Grudzielanek, one of two Dodgers with three hits, singled leading off and Sheffield homered to put the Dodgers ahead 3-1. Shawn Green, Eric Karros and Adrian Beltre followed with singles to chase Irabu.

MONTREAL (AP) - With one big swing, Eric Karros silenced the Montreal Expos' largest Opening-Day crowd since 1993. Karros hit a grand slam and the Los Angeles Dodgers overcame Vladimir Guerrero's two home runs, beating the Expos, 10-4, Monday night before 51,249 fans. Dodgers ace Kevin Brown (1-0) allowed three runs on Guerrero's RBI single in the first and a two-run shot by the Expos slugger in the fifth. Guerrero later hit a solo home run. Todd Hundley also homered for Los Angeles and Gary Sheffield added a two-run triple off Expos starter Dustin Hermanson (0-1). Brown allowed seven hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked one. The crowd was the Expos' fourth-largest ever.

Dodgers trade Castro to Reds
(AP) - The Los Angeles Dodgers traded backup infielder Juan
Castro to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday for a player to be
named later. In parts of five seasons with the Dodgers, Castro
hit .188 with two home runs and 23 RBI. He hit .274 with seven
home runs and 51 RBI for Triple-A Albuquerque last season.
