MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - On the night that Cal Ripken got his 3,000th hit, the Baltimore Orioles ended a four-game skid with a 6-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Ripken's historic hit Saturday night came in the seventh off Hector Carrasco, a line drive to center field just one pitch after Albert Belle scored from third on a passed ball by rookie Matthew LeCroy. Belle had doubled off Travis Miller (0-2) and advanced to third on Harold Baines' groundout that brought Ripken to the plate and the crowd of 18,745 to its feet. The crowd gave Ripken, who went 3-for-5, a two-minute ovation. B.J. Surhoff's solo homer off Mark Redman in the ninth made it 6-4. Tim Worrell (2-1) picked up the victory with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Former Twins closer Mike Trombley pitched the ninth for his first save.

Minnesota Twins 10, Baltimore Orioles 9
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Cal Ripken moved within three hits of 3,000, but the Minnesota Twins rallied for six runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 10-9 Friday night. Ripken went 1-for-4 with a sacrifice fly and Mike Bordick, Jeff Conine and Delino DeShields homered off Eric Milton. Minnesota, however, snapped a five-game losing streak when they rallied from a 9-4 deficit in the eighth. Baltimore lost its fourth in a row. After the Twins loaded the bases off Chuck McElroy, Al Reyes gave up a pair of two-run doubles, to Matthew LeCroy and Torii Hunter, as Minnesota pulled to 9-8. Buddy Groom (0-1) replaced him and gave up an RBI single to Cristian Guzman that tied it. Then, Matt Lawton's sacrifice fly to left scored pinch-runner Jason Maxwell for a 10-9 lead. Mark Redman (1-0) got the final out in the eighth -- on one pitch -- for the victory.

Boston Red Sox 4, Minnesota Twins 3
BOSTON (AP) - Wilton Veras, who has walked just 92 times in over 2,000 professional at-bats, drew a bases-loaded walk to break an eighth-inning tie and lead the Boston Red Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night. It was 3-3 when Nomar Garciaparra singled to lead off the eighth, then Troy O'Leary walked. Carl Everett hit a double-play ball to second base, but Jason Maxwell kicked the ball around for an error that loaded the bases. Jeff Frye hit a fly ball to shallow left field, and Denny Hocking threw Garciaparra out at the plate for a double play. Eddie Guardardo relieved Bob Wells (0-1), walked Jason Varitek and then worked the count to 3-2 on Veras before throwing ball four far outside. Tim Wakefield (1-0) earned the victory with one scoreless inning and Derek Lowe got his second save.

Boston Red Sox 7, Minnesota Twins 3
BOSTON (AP) - Nomar Garciaparra drove in three runs and Carl Everett drove in two as the Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins, 7-3, Wednesday night. Garciaparra, last year's AL batting champion, was 4-for-22 with no RBIs in his first six games, but is 6-for-9 with six RBIs in the current series. Everett, who hit .189 in spring training after being obtained from Houston, is 5-for-8 with two homers and five RBIs in the two games with Minnesota. He's hitting .464 and has hit in all eight games this season. Jeff Fassero (1-0) left with a 7-3 lead after five innings and got his first win with Boston. The Red Sox spoiled 21-year-old Johan Santana's (0-1) second major league start with seven runs in 3 2/3 innings.

BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Red Sox didn't need another outstanding performance from a Martinez, not with Carl Everett's two homers and Nomar Garciaparra's four hits. Ramon Martinez became the first Boston pitcher to win other than his brother, Pedro, and Garciaparra went 4-for-5 as the Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 13-4 Tuesday in their home opener. Ramon Martinez (1-1) allowed four of Minnesota's first five batters to reach as the Twins went ahead 1-0, but he allowed just three hits in his other four innings, and the Red Sox scored two runs in the first and eight in the second. Everett connected from both sides of the plate for the fourth time in his career. Boston went ahead with two runs in the bottom half off of the first off Joe Mays (0-1.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Johnny Damon homered leading off the ninth inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 6-5 Monday after wasting a two-run lead in the top half. Jacque Jones tied it at 5-5 with a two-run homer off Ricky Bottalico (1-0), who relieved Dan Reichert starting the top of the ninth. Corey Koskie was on base after hitting the 10th double of the game. Damon's home run off LaTroy Hawkins (0-1) was his first of the season. Jose Rosado allowed three runs and five hits in six innings, and Reichert struck out four in the next two innings. Minnesota starter Sean Bergman gave up four runs and 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings. Nine different players hit doubles in the game, including two by Kansas City's Mark Quinn.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Eric Milton didn't allow a runner until Carlos Beltran's two-out double in the seventh, and the Minnesota Twins hit six homers in a game for the first time since 1993, then hung on to beat the Kansas City Royals, 13-7, Sunday. Ron Coomer homered twice for the Twins, and Butch Huskey, Jacque Jones, Matt Lawton and Matt LeCroy also connected. Coomer, Jones and LeCroy homered off Brad Rigby during in a four-pitch span in the sixth, the first time three straight Twins homered since June 7, 1982. Kansas City trailed 13-0 entering the eighth, then had nine straight batters reach. The Royals also had three straight homers: by Beltran, Jermaine Dye and Mike Sweeney. Milton (1-0) gave up two runs and four hits in 7 2/3 innings. Jay Witasick (0-2) took the loss.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Carlos Beltran drove in two runs and Johnny Damon scored twice and drove in a run as the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2 on Saturday for their fourth straight win. Jeff Suppan (2-1) allowed two runs and five hits in six innings as the Royals matched their longest winning streak from last season. Jose Santiago pitched three hitless innings for the save. Brad Radke (0-2) led 2-1 when Damon singled with one out in the sixth. With two outs, Beltran doubled into the gap in right-center knotting the score at 2. Jermaine Dye followed with an RBI single to give the Royals the lead. In the seventh, Joe Randa and Greg Zaun singled and Rey Sanchez hit a ground-rule double that made it 4-2. Eddie Guardado relieved and surrendered a sacrifice fly to Damon for a 5-2 lead.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Mike Sweeney had two homers and four RBIs, and Jermaine Dye added a three-run shot as the Kansas City Royals rallied from a six-run deficit to beat the Minnesota Twins 10-6 Friday. Minnesota led 6-2 before Dye's three-run homer in the seventh off Bob Wells. Sweeney fouled off six two-strike pitches before tying the score with a solo homer. An inning later, the Royals went ahead on an error by catcher Matt LeCroy to make it 7-6. Sweeney hit a 452-foot drive to center with two on to pad the lead. Dye and Sweeney were each 3-for-5 to back Chris Fussell (1-0), who got his first major league win. Fussell allowed two runs -- both unearned -- and six hits in four innings. Travis Miller (0-1) took the loss for Minnesota.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays 7, Minnesota Twins 6
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Miguel Cairo had a career-best five RBIs, including the game-winning single off Hector Carrasco in the ninth that lifted the Tampa Bay Devil Rays past the Minnesota Twins 7-6 Thursday. Cairo's ninth-inning single drove in pinch-runner Tony Graffanino from third. Graffanino had run for Herbert Perry, who reached on a two-base error by third baseman Denny Hocking after Greg Vaughn's leadoff homer against Travis Miller tied the game at 6. Cairo also had a two-run double and a two-run triple. Reliever Jim Mecir (1-0) got the victory despite surrendering a two-run single to Ron Coomer to give the Twins a 6-5 lead in the seventh. Roberto Hernandez pitched the ninth for his first save. Carrasco (1-1) took the loss.

Minnesota Twins 10, Tampa Bay Devil Rays 7
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Matt Lawton's three-run homer off Rick White with nobody out in the ninth inning lifted the Minnesota Twins to a 10-7 victory over the stunned Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Wednesday night. Lawton's first homer capped a comeback that began with the Twins down 7-1 with just six outs to go. White (0-1) gave up singles to Todd Walker and Cristian Guzman before Lawton's 417-foot shot to right field made a winner of Eddie Guardado (1-0), who struck out two in one inning of work. Esteban Yan scattered three hits in seven innings and left his bullpen a 7-1 lead that it frittered away in the eighth. Yan gave up an unearned run, walked one and struck out three. The Devil Rays were cruising with a 7-1 lead before the bullpen surrendered six runs in the eighth.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins rallied for two runs in the ninth inning against Roberto Hernandez to beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6-5 on Tuesday night. Last year, Minnesota was just 1-87 when trailing after eight innings. Minnesota's Jacque Jones went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored on Torii Hunter's two-run double. Minnesota tied the score at 5-5 on a two-base error by second baseman Miguel Cairo on Todd Walker's grounder, followed by Cristian Guzman's RBI double. After Matt Lawton fouled out, David Ortiz capped the rally with an RBI single to beat Hernandez (0-1), who converted 43-of-47 save chances last year. Tampa wasted a career-high five RBIs by John Flaherty, who had a three-run homer and a two-run double. Hector Carrasco (1-0), the Twins' fourth pitcher, retired the lone batter he faced.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Charlie Brown threw out the first pitch, then Brad Radke really got his socks knocked off. Gerald Williams homered on the game's first pitch and Fred McGriff hit a grand slam as Steve Trachsel and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Minnesota Twins, 7-0, Monday night. Williams went 3-for-3 off the Twins' ace, who will subjected to trade rumors all season after turning down a $24 million offer and cutting off negotiations with the club that won a major league-low 63 games last year. Trachsel, who joined the Devil Rays in January after nine seasons in the Chicago Cubs organization, gave up five hits in seven shutout innings with no walks and seven strikeouts after losing a major league-high 18 games last season.
