Anaheim Angels 3, Chicago White Sox 1
CHICAGO (AP) - Anaheim left-hander Scott Schoeneweis threw eight innings of three-hit ball as the Angeles beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1 on Sunday. Schoeneweis (3-0), who made 31 relief appearances as a rookie last season, has beaten the Yankees, Blue Jays and White Sox this season in his first three major league starts. Schoeneweis shut out the Blue Jays on three hits in his previous outing. Troy Percival pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save in as many chances. Anaheim went ahead with two runs in the fourth off Jim Parque (1-1), who dropped to 0-4 against the Angels. Ray Durham hit a two-out, RBI double in the third for Chicago's first hit off Schoeneweis. Parque gave up three runs and 10 hits in six innings.

CHICAGO (AP) - Kent Bottenfield pitched seven shutout innings for his first American League win Saturday as the Anaheim Angels scored three first-inning runs to beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1. Bottenfield (1-1), in his third start since being traded from the Cardinals, walked two and struck out one, allowing a seventh-inning double to Mark Johnson and four singles. Shigetoshi Hasegawa relieved to start the eighth and gave up a solo homer to Greg Norton. The Angels had loaded the bases in the first inning Friday night but failed to score. This time, they converted off Kip Wells (0-2) as Adam Kennedy tripled before Mo Vaughn and Tim Salmon walked. Garrett Anderson followed with an RBI-single and Troy Glaus had a two-run double.

Chicago White Sox 9, Anaheim Angels 4
CHICAGO (AP) - Frank Thomas homered and extended his season-opening hitting streak to 11 games Friday night as the Chicago White Sox won their home opener, beating the Anaheim Angels 9-4 and matching their best start in eight years. Thomas hit a first-inning pitch from Ken Hill (1-2) nearly 400 feet to right-center field for his third homer. Paul Konerko also homered and had an RBI double and Ray Durham drove in three runs for the White Sox, off to their best start since also going 7-4 in 1992. Garret Anderson hit a two-run homer to pull the Angels within 8-4 in the eighth. The White Sox, averaging seven runs this season, loaded the bases in the second as Carlos Lee was hit by a pitch, Craig Wilson singled and Mark Johnson walked. Durham hit a sacrifice fly and then Greg Norton drove in two. Mike Sirotka (2-1) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and a run.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6, Chicago White Sox 5 (12)
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Greg Vaughn's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning gave the Tampa Bay Devil Rays a 6-5 victory Thursday over the Chicago White Sox, snapping a five-game losing streak. Vaughn's line drive to left off Tanyon Sturtze (0-1) drove in Kevin Stocker from second base. The Devil Rays' bullpen held Chicago scoreless over the last seven innings keeping Tampa Bay in the game. Jim Mecir (2-0), the fifth Devil Rays pitcher, got the win. The White Sox took a 5-4 lead into the ninth. But closer Bob Howry couldn't finish off the Devil Rays, who loaded the bases with one out on two singles, a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk. Gerald Williams grounded into a force play, driving in a run to send the game into extra innings.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - James Baldwin struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings, then left after he was hit by a line drive as the Chicago White Sox beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 7-1, Wednesday night. In his career at Tropicana Field, Baldwin is 4-0, allowing five earned runs in 27 innings. Baldwin (2-0) allowed one run and five hits. He was struck in the rib cage by Greg Vaughn's line drive in the sixth, fell down and rolled onto his stomach. After he was examined for three minutes on the mound, Baldwin was helped to his feet and walked off the field under his own power. Magglio Ordonez, in a 4-for-24 slide coming in, was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Ray Durham was 3-for-5 with an RBI triple. Dan Wheeler (0-1) took the loss.

Baldwin was hit by a line drive in the sixth inning of Wednesday
night's 7-1 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and left the game.
Baldwin was hit in the chest by Greg Vaughn's liner. Baldwin
(2-0) still earned the win -- his fourth without a loss at
Tropicana Field -- allowing one run and five hits to go along
with eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Baldwin immediately went
down and rolled onto his stomach. He grimaced in pain as trainers
from both teams rushed onto the field. After being examined on
the mound for three minutes, Baldwin was helped up and walked off
under his own power. The White Sox said he had a bruised chest,
and that X-rays on his ribs and sternum were negative.

Chicago White Sox 13, Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - The Chicago White Sox hit four home runs, including consecutive shots by Chris Singleton and Carlos Lee in the fifth inning, to beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 13-6 on Tuesday night. Singleton hit a two-run homer that put Chicago up 6-5, and Lee followed with a solo shot that extended his hitting streak to eight games. Ray Durham hit a leadoff homer and Paul Konerko, who went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, had a two-run inside-the-park homer in the first for the White Sox. Konerko also had a two-run double during a four-run eighth. Jose Canseco and Greg Vaughn homered for the Devil Rays, who have dropped six of their past seven games. White Sox starter Jim Parque (1-1) gave up five runs -- three earned -- and six hits in five innings. Esteban Yan (0-1) allowed seven runs in five innings.
Big Hurt leaves with sore foot; Chisox's Norton also hurt
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Frank Thomas of the Chicago White Sox
might miss several starts after leaving Tuesday night's 13-6 win
against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the sixth inning because of a
sore right foot. "Obviously, the tendinitis is really flaring
up," White Sox manager Jerry Manuel said. "We might not see him
the rest of the series. Maybe in a pinch-hitting role." Thomas
has been slowed by tendinitis on the inner heel of his right foot
and received a cortisone shot on Monday. Thomas had surgery on
his right ankle last September. He was the designated hitter
Tuesday night and went 1-for-3 before Jeff Abbott hit for him.
White Sox third baseman Greg Norton left with a sore left
hamstring and could wind up on the disabled list, according to
Manuel. Norton strained the left hamstring late in spring
training and has been slowed by the problem since.

Guerrero, Johnson NL players of week; Big Hurt AL player
NEW YORK (AP) - Montreal outfielder Vladimir Guerrero and Arizona
pitcher Randy Johnson were picked Monday as National League
co-players of the week, and Chicago White Sox first baseman Frank
Thomas was selected as the AL player. Guerrero was 12-for-24 with
four homers and a league-leading 11 RBIs. Johnson went 2-0 with a
1.02 ERA and a league-leading 23 strikeouts. The Big Hurt hit
.536 (15-for-28) with four doubles, two homers and eight RBIs for
Chicago.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Jason Giambi hit a grand slam and also scored on his younger brother Jeremy's sacrifice fly as the Oakland Athletics broke out of their offensive slump Sunday with a 14-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Making his first start for the A's, Jeremy Giambi hit an RBI triple to start a five-run sixth inning. Jason Giambi's slam highlighted a six-run seventh as Oakland stopped Chicago's four-game winning streak. The Athletics began the day hitting a league-low .206. Kevin Appier (1-1) pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and four hits. Ray Durham hit his third homer of the season for the White Sox, a two-run shot in the sixth. Kip Wells (0-1) struggled with his control, walking six -- one intentionally.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Frank Thomas had three hits, including a three-run homer, and the Chicago White Sox won their fourth straight game by defeating the Oakland Athletics 7-3 Saturday. Mike Sirotka (1-1), who allowed a career-high four home runs in Chicago's season-opening 10-4 loss at Texas, kept Oakland batters in the park while allowing six hits and three runs -- one earned -- in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two. The White Sox matched their longest road winning streak since last June even though shortstop Jose Valentin committed four errors. Thomas, who is hitting .541, hit Ron Mahay's (0-1) changeup and into the left-field bleachers. Mahay allowed six runs and nine hits in four innings.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Ray Durham hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning as the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat the Oakland Athletics 7-6 on Friday night. Durham's homer off Mike Magnante (0-1) highlighted the four-run inning that was extended by a catcher's interference call on Ramon Hernandez. With two outs and a run in on Carlos Lee's RBI double, pinch-hitter Jeff Abbott grounded out to second base, but was awarded first base because Hernandez's glove touched the bat on the swing. Durham followed with his second home run of the season to give the White Sox the lead. Scott Eyre (1-0) picked up the victory in relief despite allowing Hernandez's two-run homer in the sixth that gave Oakland a 6-2 lead. Heath Foulke pitched the ninth for his first save.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Ray Durham homered on the first pitch of the game and Frank Thomas and Carlos Lee also connected as the as the Chicago White Sox beat Texas, 6-2, on Thursday night. James Baldwin (1-0) retired the first 13 batters and allowed two runs and six hits in eight innings. Durham hit Esteban Loaiza's first pitch into the right-field seats to set a White Sox record with his 10th leadoff homer. Tim Raines had nine leadoff homers for Chicago. Lee hit a three-run shot in the fourth to give Chicago a 4-0 lead, and Thomas made it 5-0 in the fifth with his first homer of the year. Thomas was 3-for-4. Loaiza (0-1) allowed 10 hits and all six runs in 8 1/3 innings. Frank Catalanotto and Tom Evans drove in runs for the Rangers.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Reliever Sean Lowe stopped a big Texas rally, then Chris Singleton began a five-run ninth inning with a tiebreaking homer as the Chicago White Sox beat the Rangers 12-8 Wednesday. Lowe took over in the fifth after starter Jim Parque gave up five runs, turning a 7-1 Chicago lead into a close game. The first two batters reached, then Lowe got a strikeout and a double play. He struck out the side in the sixth. Keith Foulke (1-0) got the win, though David Segui scored an unearned run off him in the eighth to tie it at 7-7. Singleton wasted no time regaining the lead, pulling the first pitch he saw from Jeff Zimmerman (0-1) into the right-field seats. Frank Thomas then added a two-run double and Paul Konerko a run-scoring single.

Texas Rangers 12, Chicago White Sox 8
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Frank Catalanotto sparked a seven-run rally with a game-tying homer and Francisco Cordero (1-0) picked up the win as the Texas Rangers beat the Chicago White Sox 12-8 Tuesday night. Catalanotto went 2-for-4 for Texas, which has scored 22 runs in its first two games. Rafael Palmeiro got it started with a three-run homer into the upper deck in right. Texas starter Rick Helling couldn't hold it, though, allowing four runs in the fourth. Chicago's Kip Wells was knocked out in the fifth on an RBI single by Ruben Mateo that closed Texas to 5-4. An RBI single by Frank Thomas in the sixth gave the Sox a two-run cushion. Catalanotto then homered off Bill Simas (0-1) to tie the game at 6. Rusty Greer put Texas ahead with a bloop RBI double into left. Carlos Lee homered for Chicago.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Texas Rangers opened the post-Juan Gonzalez era with quite a bang. Gabe Kapler homered in his first two at-bats for Texas and AL MVP Ivan Rodriguez drove in five runs with two more homers in a 10-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox in the season opener Monday. Texas starter Kenny Rogers (1-0) kept the ball down, coaxing most of his outs on ground balls -- including four double plays -- and allowed one run in eight innings. Chicago starter Mike Sirotka (0-1) allowed seven runs -- six earned -- in 4 1/3 innings. Kapler, acquired in the trade that sent two-time AL MVP Gonzalez to Detroit, was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. The White Sox scored three times in the ninth off three relievers.
