Any resident of New Hartford may obtain a library card by providing proof of residency.

Children under the age of 14 must have parent's signature for a library card. We are glad to give a child of any age a library card.

Residents of other towns may use the New Hartford Memorial Library with a current cars from their hometown library. Barkhamsted residents should register at the Beardsley Memorial Library in Winsted.

Anyone who has an up-to-date New Hartford Memorial Library Card may use it at any public library in Connecticut that participates in the Connecticard System. Materials borrowed from other libraries may be returned at New Hartford. New Hartford materials may be returned at other Connecticut public libraries.

LOAN PERIODS AND FINES

Books and all other materials except magazines and videos may be borrowed for three weeks. They may be renewed over the telephone (379-7235) twice(if not overdue) unless there is a waiting list.

Circulating magazines and videos may be borrowed for one week.

Items are due by closing time on the date stamped in the back. A fine of ten cents per day per item (including videocassettes) is charged for days we are open.

USE OF THE INTERNET

The library provides access to the World Wide Web. Internet use at the Library is a privilege, not a right. It is the library's responsibility to establish guidelines for the availability and use of the Internet which are consistent with the library's mission, goals, policies and procedures. You must read and sign the Internet policy regulations which are at the information desk before you use any of the Internet-capable computers.

YOUR CHILDREN AND THE LIBRARY

We are glad to help you and your children find books and information, both from our collection of books, our databases, the Internet, and from libraries across the state.

In keeping with recent state law, library policy requires that all children under the age of 12 be accompanied by an adult or a mature adolescent who is responsible for their behavior in the library.

All of our patrons----of whatever age---are welcome to use or view or borrow all of our resources.

The computers in the adult reading rooms do not have filters; the computers in the children's room, if and when they have Internet, will have access to limited sites.

Many parents believe that if we have a resource in the library, its is "safe" for their children. Still, every family has its own set of values and concerns, and each child, depending on his or her age, maturity, and temperament is different.

Only you, not the library, can decide what your children or teenagers can read, borrow, view, or use at the library.

If you have middle school or teenage children, and you're worried about what they read, view, or borrow accompany them to the library or talk to them about your concerns.
