Baton Rouge Kingfish Announce
Coach for 00-01 Season
The Baton Rouge Kingfish announced today that David Lohrei has been
named head coach.
Lohrei leaves a head coaching post in the Central League where his
North Carolina-based team, the Fayetteville Force, most recently were the
defending champions in regular season play capturing the Adams Trophy.
Lohrei has been named "Coach of the Year" by the Central League two
years in a row for his work in Fayetteville and leading the Nashville
Ice Flyers.
Lohrei posts a 45-22-3 record with the Force, a 41-19-10 record with
the Ice Flyers and a three-year record of 121-68-21.
"Lohrei is a proven winner. As head coach, he will move this
program forward to where we want it to be. His record on the ice and
his extensive recruiting experience were key in our extending this
offer. Bringing the best coach to our fans was our number one goal. We
feel confident we have found him," said Kingfish President and General
Manager Ron Hansis.
Lohrei commented, "My job is to put a championship team on the ice
and that is exactly what I plan to do. My experience in college and
junior hockey is a great deal of respect for the ECHL and this team. I
couldn't be more excited about the opportunities that lay ahead for the
Kingfish."
The 40-year-old Lohrei and his wife Teri are currently planning
their move to Baton Rouge with their six-and-one-half-month old daughter
Veronica. They are expecting their second child in January.
A formal press conference is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday,
August 1, to introduce Lohrei to the press, fans and sponsors.
Lohrei will lead the Baton Rouge Kingfish as they kick off their
fifth anniversary season on Friday, October 13, against the Louisiana
IceGators at the Riverside Centroplex.
There will be a Press Conference held by the Baton Rouge Kingfish and Ron Hansis on Tuesday August to introduce David Lohrei to the Local media.
