The Coach

Cameroon's 50-year old coach MANGA ONGUENE was an exceptional striker with Canon Younde in the 1970s and early 1980s, lifting the African Champions Cup three times and the Cup Winners' Cup once.  Named Africa's Player of The Year in 1980, he was instrumental as a player in helping the Indomitable Lions qualify for the 1982 World Cup finals in Spain.  Onguene remained in the shadow of Belgian-born Henri Depireux as number two for several years from 1989 until he took over the top job last July.
