The Coach

SWEDEN BO JOHANSSON took over as national coach in the summer of 1996 after Richard Moeller Nielsen's squad gave a poor account of themselves in Euro '96.  Denmark went into the competition as reigning European champions following their stunning victory in Sweden four years previously, but failed to make any impact.  Johansson took control after the finals and revitalised the team with some keen youngsters who have done well in the qualifiers.  An economist by education, Johansson enjoys great popularity ampng the Danish public, media and his team, which he is remoulding into a more aggressive side.  After spells as a club trainer in Norway and Greece, Johansson coached Iceland in the early 1990s.  He also led Danish first division Silkeborg to the 1994 league championship during a previous two-year spell in Denmark.
