The Coach

As a club coach, GUUS HIDDINK won the Dutch championship three times with PSV Eindhoven and saw them lift the European Cup in 1988, but subsequent spells at Fenerbache and Valencia ended in his sacking.  He replaced Dick Advocaat, now at PSV, as a coach of the national side in 1995.  Hiddink believes in vesting responsibility with his players and is ready seen screaming from the touchline.  His policy instead is one of calm persuaian.  However, he has been accused of poor communication and fovouritism.  His "war" with Edgar Davids led to the midfielder's expulsionfrom the Dutch Euro 96 squad.
