The
Coach
Croat TOMISLAV IVIC will
have only five months to whip his teamj into shape in a group which includes
three times champions Germany. The Croat was only appointed early
this year to take over from Brazilian Valdier who took charge of the national
squad late in Iran's World Cup qualifying campaign. The Brazilian
was originally hired to coach the Olympic team. Ivic, 63, whose contract
is only for six months, has coached some of Europe's top clubs including
Anderlecht, Porto, Ajax Amsterdam, Athletic Madrid, Paris St. Germain and
Olympique Marseille. The Croat, whose long playing career was marked
by numerous transfers, also had a spell with the United Arab Emirates and
was briefly in charge of the Croatian national squad in 1994.
