Paintball: FAQ

1. Q- What is a Paintball marker?

A- A paintball marker is a device used to hurl the small round projectiles[Usually .68 in. in diameter]known as paintballs or simply "paint". Paintball marker is simply the political correct way of saying paintball gun.

2. Q- What type of paintball marker should I buy first?
A- When you are just starting out, it is probably best to buy a marker that is easy to handle and does not require much maintenance. Some good choices include the Brass Eagle Stingray[which can be found at your local K-MART/Wal-mart], the Spyder semi-auto, and the basic Maverick pump. All use large CO2 bottles that can be filled at any good playing field.

3. Q- Do I need to buy a mask to play?

A- Yes, you will need to buy a full face mask before you can play! Face protection is extremely important in the game of paintball. A paint projectile coming out the end of a barrel has enough force to give it the same striking power as a hammer. Lack of face protection can result in serious injuries or even death! Don't even THINK of playing without a face mask!

4. Q- How much dough is all this stuff going to cost me?

A- This really depends on the quality of the equipment you buy. You can get a Brass Eagle Stingray and mask for around $120 at Wal-mart, or you can go all out and spend as much as $2,000 on professional equipment such as the WGP Angle. It's up to you to decide what is in your price range. [I would suggest that you buy the mask first, and the gun later. Then you will be able to play a game the moment you buy your gun.]

5. Q- Does the brand of Paint make any difference on the performance?

A- Obviously there has to bad paintballs and good ones, so yes, in some ways the brand's manufacturing does make a difference on the performance. If the paintball has any bumps in the shell or has any sign of ruffness, the paintball will not perform well and may swerve from side to side instead of shooting straight. It has been my experiance that the PMI paintball, manufactured by R.P. Scherer, is the best performing paintball you can buy. It breaks on target and is extremely accurate.

6. Q- Will I experiance any pain if a paintball hits me on my body?

A- If the paintball hits an unprotected area it will sting and may leave large welts on the surface of your skin, but that will usually go away after about 30 minutes. I have been hit many times but that has never intimidated me to stop playing the game. Beleive me, the experiance paintball gives you is well worth the little bit of pain that comes with it.
