Recipes to keep your bachelor healthy and happy

    Provided on this page is a list of recipes and advice that are perfect for today's bachelors, students and young couples.  Come back regularly for updates, I will keep adding recipes as I come across them and time allows.

    I will start off with Canada's Food Guide.  When you are planning your meals it is important that you include sufficient servings from each of the four major food groups.

1 cup salad
Milk Products 2-4 Servings 1 cup milk
1 slice cheese
3/4 yogurt
Meats and Alternates 2-3 Servings 2-3 oz. cooked meat, chicken or fish
1-2 eggs
2 tbsp peanut butter

Berry Frostie  (great for breakfast or a quick snack) {Your Guide to Cooking 101}
          Prep Time: approx. 1-2 minutes

                1/2 cup [125ml]        milk*
                1/2 cup [125ml]        strawberries**
                1/2 cup [125ml]        vanilla yogurt

                1.  Combine all ingredients in a blender
                2.  Blend for about 30 seconds until thick and smooth

                *    Try Orange Juice instead of milk.
                **  Also try bananas, peaches, melons, or any other type of berry.

Economy Meat Loaf {Your Guide to Cooking 101}
            Prep Time: approx. 3-5 minutes
            Cook Time: 1 hour

                1 lb [500g]                lean ground beaf
                1                               medium egg
                3/4 cup [175ml]        oatmeal*
                1/2 cup [125ml]        tomato sauce**
                1/2                           onion [finely chopped]
                1 tbsp [15ml]           worchestershire sauce
                1 tbsp [15ml]           soy sauce
                for flavor                  salt
                for flavor                  pepper
                for flavor                  thyme

                1. In a mixing bowl, mix togehter ground beef, egg and uncooked oatmeal.
                2. Moisten with tomato sauce, worchestire sauce and soy sauce.  Mix thoroughly.  Add seasonings.
                3. Transfer to a loaf pan. Pat down sides.
                4. Bake in preheated oven at 350F oven for one hour
                5. Let sit for 5 minutes to set before serving

                    *   Try bread crumbs or crushed soda crackers instead of oatmeal
                    ** Try ketchup or salsa instead of tomato sauce

                    Variations:  Try adding vegetables to meat mixture before baking
                                      Top with a couple of slices of uncooked bacon before placing in oven

French Toast  {Your Guide to Cooking 101}
          Prep Time: 2 minutes
               Cook Time:  5 minutes

                2                                eggs
                2 tbsp [25ml]              milk
                1 tbsp [15ml]             margarine
                2                                slices of bread (preferably thick)
                for flavor                    cinnamon or icing sugar
                for flavor                    maple syrup

                1. Mix the eggs and milk
                2. Melt the margarine in a frying pan at medium heat. Swirl around so that entire pan is greased.
                3. Dip bread into the egg/milk mixture, coat well.
                4. Brown the bread on both sides in frying pan.
                5. Serve topped with your favorite sweetener

Oven Pork Chops {Your Guide to Cooking 101}
                    Prep Time: 5 minutes
                    Cook Time: 30 minutes

                    1                            Onion
                    2                            Pork chops
                    1/2                         Green Pepper
                    10 oz [284ml]        Tomato soup

                    1. Slice onion into rings and place into bottom of casserole dish
                    2. Lay pork chops on top
                    3. Remove seeds from green pepper and cut into slices.  Place slices on top of pork chops.
                    4. Pour tomato soup over top.
                    5. Bake uncovered at 325F for 30 minutes.
