Good News and Bad News

Good news first, sources out of College Station have reported that John Comstock has turned the proverbial corner.  Last week, doctors gave John a 5% chance of survival, now they expect him to live!  They expect his condition to be upgraded by the end of the week.  However this is being optimistic.  John still has a long way to go, so the prayers are still needed.

Now for the bad news.  Traces of alcohol were found in the the blood stream of three of the victims.  Two would have been classified as legally drunk.  I won't give the names, as not to soil the reputation of these Aggies.  You can follow a number of the links below to find that info.   It is reported that the night of the accident, was also a night in which the several new "pots" were being selected.  For those "not in the know," this is a relatively special occasion, and a tremendous honor.  These victims were said to be celebrating.  The university has stated that it finds no link between the accident and the intoxicated victims.  In addition to this, several of the JRP's (junior red pot) diaries, were reported to have many sexist, racist, comments in them.

EDITORIAL NOTE:

I have no problem with what people put in their PERSONAL diary.  As long as their actions do not demean anyone.  Remember, actions speak louder than words.  With relation to the intoxicated students, I personally was never drunk while working on Bonfire.  It was stressed that we should never be intoxicated while working on Bonfire.  If we were found to be drunk, we would be turned away.  I believe the misguided actions a few will tarnish a great tradition.  There is nothing wrong with celebrating a selection as a "pot,"   but it needs to stay off Bonfire, it is just too dangerous.

Aggieland, needs to get ready, because we are about to take a beating like no other.  I feel confident, we will make it through this.  Even though it will be tough, I believe we are the ones that can do it.

Please send this to anyone you think might be interested, especially those who live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. We only have a short time to get the word out.  Through the cooperative efforts of the Irving City Manager's Office, The Irving Parks and Recreation Department, and the Irving Police Department, Aggies who can't make the actual Silver Taps ceremony in College Station are graciously being allowed an opportunity to say goodbye and to honor those Aggies whom have passed on in the tragic bonfire accident.

The following is an update on John Comstock's condition posted by Moses Hall 99 on Texags.com.

The good news is that John's fever has dropped from 105 to 102.
However, his body is still on toxin overload which is effecting his kidneys and now his liver too. The doctors have removed a large ammount of tissue and muscle from his stomach. They fear that if any more is removed that he may not be able to sit up on his own. There is also whispers (and only whispers) about possibly having to amputate part of his arm. He still isn't really showing too much improvement, but he isn't drastically sliding either.

This morning when I woke up at the hospital...I woke up to the most awesome news! You guys...God is listening to our prayers. John opened his eyes early this morning and looked around the room. Keep praying...get on your knees and beg if you have to. God Bless John and God Bless Texas!

Remember, John still needs blood.  Even if he doesn't, it's a good idea to donate anyway, so his family can get credits toward the bill.

I donated platelets yesterday.  It's a procedure similar to plasma donation.  With my donation I was able to register as a Bone Marrow Donor, for free.  This normally costs about $65, due to all the testing they have to do.

I think it's a small price to pay to save a person's life.

Keep praying for John.
