(Note: Some of the pictures
are of a less than desired image quality because my flashgun didn't work
properly, and because I needed to zoom in electronically when scanning
some of the pictures).
The first 18 pictures below, are of shihan Yamaue - soke of Yamaue Aikijutsu, and head of the Scandinavian Budo Organization. He has been the main attraction at the camps that NBO (the Norwegian Budo Organization) has organized for many years now. Most martial artists (as well as non MA-ists!) who see shihan Yamaue demonstrate techniques on others or them selves are totally amazed of what Yamaue does with their bodies. He always teach interesting and practical techniques, and his demonstrations of the use of Ki (inner energy) is really spectacular. It's difficult to judge by still photos, but if you look closely at some of the pictures below you will see that uke (person receiving the technique) is sometimes locked up in pain by only a very little touch by shihan Yamaue, and in one picture Yamaue has even let go of uke, who is still locked up, unable to move or get out of the lock...
Watching this live is very weird,
you see uke on the floor, shaking in pain (or because he is trying his
best to get out of the lock), and Yamaue doesn't evne have physical
contact with him!
In addition to his family system of Aikijutsu he has a very strong background in Shorinji Kempo, which he studied under the founder Doshin Sho. I have been fortunate enough to be at three seminars with him so far, and even though I'm not affiliated with his organization, or study any of his systems, I try to make it to any camp in Norway where he is teaching.
If you would like to know more about shihan Yamaue you can contact [email protected] who is one of the instructors at Romerike Ju Jutsu Club, which has shihan Yamaue as their technical advisor. The NBO arranges a summer camp every first week of July (they have their 15th anniversary in 1998) in Risoer, Norway, which features shihan Yamaue and many other excellent instructors.

The following 7 pictures features senseis Eri Kusano and Are Larsen Kusano. Most of them from a demonstration of Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu. Eri Kusano sensei is a 5th dan of Katori Shinto Ryu under shihan Yoshio Sugino, and has studied at his dojo for many years. She is also a master of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Are Larsen sensei is a 4th dan in Katori Shinto Ryu, and also studies at shihan Sugino's dojo. In addition he is ranked in a number of other martial arts; 5th dan jujutsu, 4th dan aikido, Kyudo and Iaido, and 2nd dan Shorinji Kempo and Arnis. He lives with his wife Eri and their son Motoyoki in Japan.
Sensei Are Larsen is Norwegian, but
moved to Japan in the late 80's to further his studies of Budo.
The Kusano's are thus frequently visiting Norway, and have been instructing
at the camps organized by the Norwegian Budo Organization, as well as at
many clubs around the country. They are very knowledgeable in their
arts, and it's always interesting to attend seminars where they are teaching.

In the picture at the top left below, sensei Are Larsen demonstrates a Katori Shinto Ryu form with his son Motoyoki (who at the age of 5 already knows much about budo!) In the two pictures to the right Are Larsen is demonstrating Shorinji Kempo with Hans Petter Skolsegg. In the two pictures to the left in the 2nd row we see Are Larsen dressed as a "wandering monk" being attacked by a "villain".

Anders Randin is one of Sweden's best Wing Chun exponents.

To the left below we see sensei Claes Bjurestig, 5th dan Ju jutsu, demonstrating a throw. He is also one of the "old-timers" in teaching at the summer camp, and is famous for his very direct and effective Ju jutsu. To the right of him, Haakon is doing a Katori Shinto Ryu kata, a Tae Kwon Do'ist is in an advanced form, and two jujutsuka doing newaza. In the second row we see sensei Eri Kusano serving tea to shihan Yamaue and a student, in a tea ceremony outdoors, after training one of the days at summer camp. The last picture is from the kids camp, where there has been a little ice cream expedition to the town centre!
