It's a kind of magic

Part twelve

Nikki and Linzi prowled quietly around the back rooms of the church. They heard voices and snuck up to the door. Nikki applied her eye to the crack. She pulled back and grabbed Linzi with her.

"They're taking instructions from an eyeball!" she squealed becoming slightly unhinged by the events of the last few days. Linzi gaped at her.

"An eyeball?" she whispered back.

"Yep," nodded Nikki, "The big guy who carries it around was sitting in some sort of trance and talking to two of the others."

"We've got to tell the others. They all think it's the Undertaker." Said Linzi. They started back.

"There's two of 'em!" yelled a voice behind them. Linzi glanced over her shoulder to see Farrooq and Viscera chasing them. The two girls ran. In their panic they accidentally took a wrong turning and ended up on scaffolding in the church tower. The two men lumbering up the stairs blocked the way behind them.

"Quick under the scaffolding." Said Linzi. She and Nikki swung themselves under seconds before Farrooq and Viscera appeared. They walked over the two girls hiding place before deciding that they must have taken the wrong route. As they left Nikki stared at Linzi wide eyed.

"I don't think I can swing myself back up." She said. Linzi giggled.

"I don't think I can either." She laughed.

"This isn't funny!" exclaimed Nikki.

"Sorry," said Linzi sobering slightly, "Hey I have an idea."

"Tell me quickly then. I don't think I can hold on much longer." Groaned Nikki.

"If I swing upside down I can make a cradle of my hands and you can step on it to get up." Explained Linzi.

"That's a crazy idea!"

"You got a better one?"

"Just get upside down." Linzi linked her hands and Nikki tried to climb up. Finally she looked at Linzi.

"This isn't going to work." She sighed then screamed as two faces peered over the edge.

"Any damsels in distress need rescuing here?" asked Shane reaching down to grab Nikki's arm. She clung on gratefully as he pulled her up. He looked at her curiously. Billy leaned down and grabbed Linzi by her arm and a handful of hair. The four of them walked back Billy still holding Linzi by the hair. They reached the safe room without incident.

"It's the eyeball." Blurted out Nikki. Billy stared at her.

"I'd better find Raven and tell him," Said Billy. He pointed at Linzi, "You stay here." He walked out of the room. Shane turned to Nikki.

"Aren't you Shawn Micheals erm..." He stuttered.

"Other woman." Supplied Nikki.

"Yes. No." Babbled Shane. Nikki patted his arm.

"It's okay," She reassured him, "Shawn and I are no more. I told him to make a choice and he chose Rebecca."

"Well that was stupid of him." Said Shane before blushing furiously. "Do you know what's going on here?"

"Not really," said Nikki, "My advice is just cling to what you know."

"Fine," Shane nodded, "Do you want to go out for dinner sometime." Linzi whimpered in the corner.

"Are you alright?" asked Nikki crouching beside her. Linzi stood up and snickered

"I'm off to save the day." She giggled. Nikki stared at her retreating back in horror. Rae entered with her enlarged group. Raven, Billy and Witka weren't far behind them.

"Where's Linzi?" asked Rae. Nikki glared at Billy.

"In the hope of impressing someone," she said icicles dripping from her voice, "She's gone to save the day!"

"Oh no!" exclaimed Rae.

"I think she's gone elf as well." Said Nikki.
