It's a thin line
Part ten
Linzi
strolled along the beach next to Billy. There was something about this beach
that seemed familiar. This was happening to her a lot. People, places, things
seemed familiar, but she couldn't remember why. She shivered slightly. Billy's
voice broke into her thoughts.
"There's
a sheltered bit over by those rocks. It's out of the breeze."
"Good
idea." smiled Linzi as they headed over.
Mel
stared at Rey in horror.
"He's
taken her where, in the hope of doing what and you went along with it!" she
shouted at him. Rey shrugged.
"It
seemed like a good idea at the time. She might get her memory back."
"Where
is he taking her?" Rey shook his head.
"I
don't know. He mentioned something about a beach and some party.."
"Kelley's
beach party. We've got to get in touch with her. I know Linzi's got her number
somewhere."
Billy
and Linzi sat on the sand, in the shelter of the rocks. Billy tentatively put
his arm round her. Linzi smiled up at him and leant against him. Suddenly a loud
squawking disturbed the night. They both jumped up quickly.
"Only
birds." giggled Linzi. The breeze had sprung up again and was fanning her
hair across her face. Billy gently smoothed it back with his hands, stroking
them down her neck, resting them lightly on her upper arms. As he leant in to
kiss her Linzi's memory came flooding back.
"I
don't care about the policy. My friend may be in trouble. Give me the goddamn
pass key." Mel screamed at the unfortunate desk attendant. Rey hovered
nervously nearby trying to explain to Raven why Mel was now shaking the poor
guy. Raven nodded.
"Billy
has been acting awful strange recently." he said. Brushing Mel aside he
hauled the desk attendant over the counter and looked him straight in the eye.
"Give
me the pass key or I'll break every bone in your body." Raven said quietly.
The quivering attendant reached into his pocket and handed the key to Raven in
shaking hands. Raven put him down.
"Thank
you." he said. Mel had already rushed off to Linzi's room.
"You
pushed me!" said Linzi accusingly. Billy rubbed the cheek she'd just
slapped.
"I
meant you to land on the bed. Not hurt yourself." he said softly.
"And
this beach," continued Linzi, "This is where...where...Oh my God I
can't believe you've brought me here. I really hate you Billy."
"Really?"
asked Billy.
"Really,
truly." spat out Linzi. Billy pulled out his car keys and tossed them to
her.
"Take
the car. I'll make my own way back." Linzi stalked off down the beach,
shaking in anger. Her pace slowed as memories from the past assailed her. She
brushed her hair back of her face, shaking her head to dispel the image of Billy
doing the same moments earlier. Her hand was wet and she realised that she was
crying. Mel's voice came back to her. 'It's a thin line between love and hate.'
Linzi looked back, but Billy had gone. Then she noticed a figure silhouetted
against the skyline on top of a rock, popularly known as Lovers leap. Suddenly
the figure disappeared. Linzi's heart was in her mouth. Surely he can't have,
she thought. She raced back up the beach and onto the rocks, scrambling to the
top. She moved carefully to the edge looking over.
"Looking
for someone?"
Linzi
turned round. Billy was stood right behind her.
"I
thought you'd...not that I care of course." Billy reached out and wiped the
tears of her face.
"Why
are you crying then?" he asked. Linzi shook her head dumbly. Billy wrapped
her in his arms murmuring in her ear. Linzi looked up in shock.
"What?"
"I
love you." repeated Billy. He bent his head and kissed her. Linzi
passionately returned his kiss. Billy sat down, pulling Linzi with him.
"Now
this," he said, unbuttoning her blouse, "brings back many
memories." Linzi giggled, then gasped as his mouth captured her freed
nipple, gently teasing it with his tongue.
"There's
his car." yelled Mel, nearly busting Raven's eardrum. Raven pulled into the
lay-by, parking up behind Billy's car. Mel was out of the car before it stopped.
She checked out the car and finding no one in it rushed up the beach, followed
by the two men. As they drew closer to the rocks the faint sound of moans and
whimpers was heard. Raven and Rey started smiling.
"Listen
to that," shrieked Mel, "He's hurting her." She started up the
rocks, but Raven pulled her back.
"I
don't think you should go up there." he said.
"He's
hurting my friend. You can hear her moaning." argued Mel. Raven shook his
head.
"Listen
carefully. They're not moans of pain." Just then a particularly clear 'Oh
Billy' echoed its way around the beach. Mel blushed crimson. Raven draped an arm
over her shoulder.
"Let's
go back," he said, "It sounds like everything is going to be
fine."
